Eagles acquire Kenny Pickett in a trade with the Steelers

Eagles Swoop in for Pickett in Shocking Trade with Steelers

The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a surprise move this morning, acquiring young quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for draft picks.

Pickett, the 20th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, started most of the games for the Steelers the past two seasons. However, Pittsburgh's acquisition of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson made Pickett expendable.

The Eagles, always looking to solidify their depth at the quarterback position behind Jalen Hurts, saw an opportunity and pounced. They gave up a 2024 third-round pick (98th overall) and a pair of seventh-round picks in the 2025 draft to land Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick (120th overall) from the Steelers.

This is a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for the Eagles. Pickett showed promise in his starts for Pittsburgh, completing 446 passes for 4,474 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons. If he can develop under Head Coach Nick Sirianni and learn from Hurts, he could become a valuable asset for Philadelphia.

The Steelers, on the other hand, prioritize winning now with the aging Wilson under center. They recoup some draft capital they lost in acquiring Wilson and get a young flyer on a potential future starter in the later rounds.

This trade is sure to be dissected by NFL analysts for weeks to come. Did the Eagles steal a potential franchise quarterback? Did the Steelers give up on Pickett too soon? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: the NFC East just got a whole lot more interesting.
