Prospective Theorizing1 hourChris LaszloWed Jul 27, at 11:30: AMProspection ("the mental representation and evaluation of possible futures") offers scholars a powerful new method for researching with social impact. Quantum science is giving fresh impetus to the idea that prospective theorizing calls forth a reality rather than objectively studying a world “out there”. This session covers theory building as well as the ontological and epistemological implications of quantum perspectives in the social sciences. Includes breakout sessions to explore what it means for you and for the future of MSR research aimed at tackling wicked problems from climate change to social equity. 10:30 AM 11:30 AM

Research Methods: Story of Our Body of Work1 hourVishal Gupta
Janani Murali
Thu Jul 28, at 2:30: AMTom, Ramya and Jyoti Vishal will speak about his research evolving over time to discuss different research methods used to study management problems in the Indian context and his recent experience in reconnecting with indigenous knowledge in the Indian epics. As the past President of the Indian Academy of Management (INDAM), he will also comment on the Indian management scholarship over the last 10 years. (Vishal Gupta is Associate Professor, OB Area, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad & Chairperson, Ashank Desai Centre for Leadership and Organizational Development, IIM Ahmedabad).

STORY OF OUR BODY OF WORK: A glimpse of collaborative work between 3 seemingly unrelated scholars (Janani, Jyoti, Ramya) who trusted their embodied wisdom, and are exploring non-textual research methodologies inspired from ancient, scientific, indigenous wisdom still alive in the arts such as sculpture, dance, poetry, theater improv, as one approach to decolonizing management theories and research. In an experiential mini-workshop that lets you experience this type of work, Janani explores how to bring the body, it's embodied wisdom and role in truth seeking and how that enlivens and enriches our research. Drawing on the ancient text of Natyashastra, she brings theater, dance, music, stagecraft, sculpture, storytelling and classical epics influence on lived experiences connecting the ancient and modern to transmit knowledge across the centuries. Experiential embodied ways of knowing/being is our central theme.

(Janani Murali is a Biologist, Scientific Writer and Associate Artistic Director at Padmalaya Dance Foundation, Bangalore; Ramya Venkateswaran is Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and Board member of the India chapter of International Humanistic Management Association; Jyoti Bachani is Associate Professor, Saint Mary's College of California, and Board member of the US and India chapters of International Humanistic Management Association.)

MSR Research Methodology1 hourTom Culham, Raysa Rocha, Tianyuan YuThu Jul 28, at 2:00: PMNeed to discuss this as a committeeA subcommittee of MSR has been formed to develop an expansive research infrastructure and philosophies of science that transcend the traditional positivist approach and develops research methodologies inquiring into subtle, traditionally unmeasurable human experiences such as nondual awareness, and provide leadership enabling the community of current and emerging scholars to conduct research with a social impact. We are reporting on our work to date which includes a bibliometric analysis of research methods utilized in JMSR and interviews of 48 MSR researchers. 1:00 PM 2:00 PM
