It doesn't happen often that I read a 100-page report and say: "YES!" That was my reaction when I read the first draft of the State of the Market Report for Healthcare Facility Electrification. The full report is even better. This report centers on a database of almost 400 projects, all with different scope, scale, geographic focus, etc. This is a key resource if you want to understand where the 'powering healthcare sector' comes from, and how it may continue to evolve. It is also a perfect compliment to the equally brilliant 'Energizing Health' report published last year. A big collaborative effort, and massive plaudits to my Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Powering Healthcare colleagues Marilena Lazopoulou Charlie Knight Nashwa Naushad Rahul Srinivasan, and our partners at Economic Consulting Associates (ECA) and Odyssey Energy Solutions, and thanks to funders UKaid Transforming Energy Access. => https://lnkd.in/eEe5CqHe

Healthcare systems around the world are responsible for emitting more than 4% of the total CO2 emissions, which is higher than the emissions from the aviation or shipping sectors. If healthcare were a country, it would be the fifth-largest contributor to greenhouse gases. Additionally, the pharmaceutical industry produces more greenhouse gases than the automotive industry. Reducing the healthcare ecosystem's carbon footprint would have significant health, social, and economic benefits. Therefore, reducing emissions should be a fundamental part of delivering universal health coverage, ensuring that healthcare improvements are sustainable in the long term. Achieving net-zero emissions in all sectors is one of the most critical global health interventions. #netzero #climateaction #publichealth

Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) recently launched their State of the Market Report for Healthcare Facility Electrification report. Here is what I picked: ➡ Healthcare electrification trends • Data-driven decision-making is becoming paramount • Climate finance emerges as a promising avenue for funding. • Is becoming a priority for many national-level electrification strategies. • Stakeholders are beginning to realise the importance of capacity-building. • Are more cost-effective and sustainable due to Technology ( e.g solar PV) ➡ Key challenges and lessons learned • A lack of flexible, tailored financing options tailored • A lack of understanding of energy-related needs. • Inappropriate design and needs assessments • Limited capacity at government level • A lack of institutional coordination ➡ Financing and investment needs • Approximately 64% of global health facilities lack adequate power supply. • An estimated total investment of USD 4.9 billion ➡ Measuring impact in different areas: • Patient care. • Quality of life. • Gender inequality. • Healthcare quality. • Economic benefits. • Environmental benefits. • Equipment functionality. Healthcare electrification is crucial for many in remote parts of the world. Renewable energy has a lot to offer in terms of enabling affordable and reliable energy. What are your thoughts on healthcare electrification? Let us discuss in the comments below.

🗝️ Why are healthcare and infrastructure sectors still key components of our portfolios? 🗝️ Healthcare ⚕️An ageing population in developed markets is increasing pressure on health systems and driving innovation in more efficient and effective treatments. ⚕️Rising affluence in emerging markets is widening access to healthcare but also increasing demand. ⚕️The spread of innovation in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, such as the much-hyped launch of anti-obesity treatments, and in new therapeutic areas. Infrastructure 🛠️ Ageing infrastructure across the west will require significant investment over the coming years to maintain transport routes 🛠️ The green energy transition requires heavy investment across the power grid 🛠️ A shift to electric vehicles will similarly create pressures on both the generation and distribution of energy with the number of public charging points in the UK woefully inadequate for this growing market. 🛠️ Geopolitical stress has accelerated a process of ‘re-shoring', offering an opportunity to invest in relocated industrial power. Read our Co-Chief Investment Officer Richard Champion’s complete thoughts here: https://ow.ly/Yxrn50QCONK Investment involves risk, and you may not get back what you invest. It’s not suitable for everyone. #investing #markets #healthcare #infrastructure
