The Neglected Stone: Can Marco compete for shinny SILVA-ware

Image
As the game week 24 of the Premier League draws to a close, a London outfit has drawn a lot of curious attention to a scintillating rise to the top half of the league table.  Marco Silva's rise hasn't come as a surprise as we all have had a little intro to what he is like and the kind of results that he can mastermind.  His side's rise has caught a lot of fans and neutrals by surprise. They have 38 points with fourteen games to spare, apparently meaning that they have beat the drop with at least two draws even though their season target will become finishing a bit higher up the table.  This is the same side that got relegated from the Premier League two seasons ago while Silva was with a battling Wolves side which eventually beat the drop.  Last season's transformation had not become so evident as they became sturdy, climbing the championship table with instant promotion in sights. A group of players either not playing at their parent or previous clubs finding their f

Can United maintain top four charge as Trophy chance looms on the horizon?

Manchester United face a tough fixture on Sunday afternoon as they entertain a rejuvenated Leicester side who have won two of their last three games in the league, scoring ten goals in the process. Meanwhile, the host are looking to cut the lead at the top of the league to just five points having won five of their last seven games in all competitions since the loss to the league leaders at the Emirates scoring sixteen goals and letting in six goals. Ten Haag's men have to navigate a tough second leg tie on Thursday against the La liga leaders just before the Carabao cup final against Newcastle and will be without Casemiro who is serving his last game of his domestic suspension.  This tie has proven to provide entertainment and goals alike even though United have beaten the host already this season, can they display the cutting edge that saw Barcelona concede two goals in mid-week in the space of 15 minutes or even slowly see out the game like they did a week ago at Elland road or w

Climate Change or Clay too dry for the Potter?

Chelsea were downed by an expertly taken freekick in the first period and couldn't find any solutions to their slump in form despite the numerous additions to their squad in the January transfer window.  Ward Prowse became the second highest goalscorer from a direct freekick in the Premier League only one behind David Beckham to give the visitors the lead as they held on for an all important win as the host were clueless in finding a response even after the break.  Chelsea have now gone more than 13 games without a win on the bounce and it's become more of a characteristic of this Potter's side as the seem to lack real belief in salvaging a season that seems to be slipping right in front of their fans despite the obvious investment on and off the pitch.  Credit must be given to the visitors who changed their manager twice already this season and rallied together to pull off a stunning win on a matchweek when results are most likely not to go your way. What next now for th

Manchester City failed to capitalise on their mid-week success at the Emirates stadium after beating the league leaders.  Unlikely scorer in Bernardo Silva put the champions ahead deep into the first half after a very rugged display from the host keeping very tight at the back but failed to deal with Grealish as he slid a perfect pass inside to the Portuguese who calmly kept his shot low and on target.  The visitors were a bit complacent with the ball and were too guilty to looking for a easy decisions for the referee a few times too many.  The league's top scorer was held at bay who went down on a very soft challenge in the box never really got going through out the game as the home side ensured there was nothing really coming into the striker's path. Pep Guardiola was expectedly disappointed when his side conceeded very late on in the game from a Chris Wood goal for Nottingham forest who are currently unbeaten at home in the league since a 2-3 loss to Fulham way back in Sep

London Divas: Gunners pull off outstanding Come-back Job to climb Premier League Summit

The London outfit completed a superb comeback at Villa Park, with the lunch hour kick-off proving once again to be a very trick fixture to navigate.  The young Arsenal side showed once again why they were still the team to beat after coming back twice in the game to snatch a 4-2 win away from home. Arteta's side having lost to the Champions Man City in mid-week have quickly put their past setbacks behind them to claim another vital three points on the road with goals from in form Bukayo Saka, Zinchenko and Martinelli right at the death.  With former goalkeeper & World cup winner, Emiliano Martinez scoring an own goal right in the final 10 minutes of normal time to aid the away side as the gunners move back to the top of the table at least for the next hour or so.
