Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, which is equivalent to 74 percent of all deaths globally, according to World Health Organisation (WHO).

Each year 17 million people die from a non-communicable disease before age 70; with 86 percent of these premature deaths occurring in low and middle-income countries such as Uganda.

To try and reduce the trend, June 18, was the National Day of Physical Activity meant to raise awareness about the dangers of non-physical activity and non-communicable diseases like pressure, diabetes and cancer and ensure that they educate people about the importance of being physically active and the role it plays in cutting down the risk factors of developing NCDs.

A number of activities including fitness walks and or runs, aerobics, and Zumba, among other fitness routines were held at Kololo Independence grounds. All that the participants needed was to report with their sports attire and participate in the free-of-charge activities.
