BOSTON, Mass. – March 24, 2024 – Atlantic Hockey Association regular season and postseason champion RIT will be the No. 4 seed in the Sioux Falls Regional when the 2024 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship begins later this week.
The Tigers will meet the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed, Hockey East’s Boston University (26-9-2), on Thursday, March 28 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET Thursday on ESPNU.
This will be RIT’s first meeting with Boston University.
The winner of the RIT-Boston University game will meet the winner of Thursday’s 8:30 p.m. ET regional semifinal between No. 2 regional seed Minnesota (22-10-5) and No. 3 regional seed – and regional host – Omaha (23-12-4) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The 2024 NCAA Tournament will open with regionals at four sites – Maryland Heights, Mo., Providence, R.I., Sioux Falls, S.D., and Springfield, Mass., March 28-31. The regional winners will advance to the 2024 Frozen Four April 11-13 at the Xcel Energy
Center in St. Paul, Minn.
RIT won its fourth Atlantic Hockey Postseason title on Saturday with a 5-2 win over AIC. The Tigers also won the 2023-24 Atlantic Hockey Association regular season crown with an 18-17-1 mark and enter Thursday’s match-up with an overall record of 27-10-2 that includes a 5-0 record in the Atlantic Hockey Postseason.
This will be RIT’s fourth NCAA berth with the previous appearances coming in 2010, 2015 and 2016. The 2010 appearance saw the Tigers win the Albany Regional with victories over Denver and New Hampshire to earn a trip to the 2010 Frozen Four in Detroit. RIT is 3-3 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
