😱The future of the wildly popular video-sharing app TikTok is up in the air 🏴☠️ 🇨🇳 Starting in China, TikTok is available in 39 languages and popular in over 150 countries with over 800 million active users worldwide🌍 🇪🇬Women have been jailed in Egypt for using TikTok and this is counterintuitive to the recent Egyptian Me Too Movement 🚨 TikTok is considered a threat because of its ties with China, yet TikTok’s parent company ByteDance claims it stores foreign user data within the United States, not China ⚠️ 🇮🇳 TikTok has already been banned in India after growing tensions between the two countries 🚩 ❌Trump has just signed an executive order barring TikTok from operating in the US within 45 days unless it is purchased by Microsoft 👩💻 ⁉️Is TikTok being banned in several countries strictly due to security concern or political reasons🤔 📵Is TikTok really a threat to national security? Or is the US trying to undermine China? 🇺🇸 👇what do you think?👇 #TikTok #TikTokBan #SaveTikTok #Trump #FangWan #InternationalMarketing #NorthAmerica #China #India #MiddleEast #Egypt #storytelling #marketing #digitalmarketing #socialmedia #socialnetworking #branding #bans #politics #feminism #metoo #asper #asperschoolofbusiness #asperschool Fang Wan MEHMET YANIT
I think using any form of social media is a choice and you subject yourself to any consequences resulting from it. Since the development of the coronavirus, activity on TikTok has increased and it has been a channel for creativity. As cringy as some are I think it is important for people to express themselves, especially during these times. Therefore, though I agree if there are security issues and Leaders have a right to be skeptical, I think controlling/monitoring use if better than banning -- people will rebel if they are told not to do something.
I don’t think you got your facts right about Egypt. Women were arrested for using TikTok but no feminist revolution occurred.
Very insightful post! At the end of day, I believe people will find a way to use TikTok even if it is banned in the states. It would be wise if the states does not ban TikTok to keep some control over the platform instead of burning bridges. You never know if you will have to cross the same river twice (;
Data is the world's new currency and if governments believe their data is at risk they should shut down applications that may access it. Then again I don't believe China is trying to or going to infiltrate the US through tiktoks!
Great post Sarah
Trump is an absolute idiot for doing all this especially during these hard times... focus on COVID first
This could be a political move for the US to take one of the most main stream and powerful apps in the world right now, and because it is owned by China it makes it more of an incentive for the US to try and prove they are better than China.
Facebook has recently launched Instagram Reels as a direct competitor to TikTok. Perhaps Trump is attempting to ban TikTok in the United States to allow American based organizations in the industry to prosper.

3yI think it's interesting how Instagram added reels as soon as Trump announced plans to ban TikTok. Definitely makes you think that it was more of an business/economic move rather than a national security and protection move. It'll be interesting to see how it develops over the next month!
