NEW YORK -- Roberto Kelly hit a two-run single and Tom Brookens delivered the winning hit to highlight a four-run seventh inning Saturday that sent the New York Yankees to a 4-3 exhibition victory over the New York Mets.

The game was played at Yankee Stadium before 52,119 as part of a two-game charity series between the New York rivals.

The teams will play Sunday at Shea Stadium in the final exhibition for both teams.

The Mets led 3-0 after six innings, with Darryl Strawberry providing a tremendous two-run homer in the first off Dave LaPoint and Gregg Jefferies and Kevin McReynolds delivering doubles off Richard Dotson in the sixth.

Right-hander Ron Darling pitched five hitless innings for the Mets and Terry Leach surrendered two sixth-inning hits, but was unscored on.

Roger McDowell, who has struggled all spring, started the seventh for the Mets and yielded a leadoff single to Ken Phelps. He walked Mike Pagliarulo, but forced Mel Hall to fly out to left. Don Slaught singled to left, loading the bases. Randy Velarde looked at a third strike, but Kelly singled up the middle for two runs.

Don Aase replaced McDowell, 1-5, and surrendered a tying infield single to Bernie Williams, who hit a smash back to the mound that Aase could not handle. Brookens followed with an RBI single to left.

The winner was Lee Guetterman, who pitched a hitless seventh inning. Dave Righetti pitched the ninth for the save.
