Benin cover

The Government of Benin has demonstrated political leadership and strong stewardship to tackle the challenges presented by climate change to its economy and food systems. With the agriculture industry extremely vulnerable to climate change and 10% of households experiencing food insecurity, coupled with 2010's severe flooding, which cost the country an estimated US$ 257 million, or 2% of GDP, mitigation and adaptation strategies are a top policy priority for the government. The execution of Benin's mitigation and adaptation strategies is expected to cost 10.5 billion US dollars, according to its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

This case study provides an analysis of the policy, legal and institutional frameworks that facilitate the mobilization of climate finance in Benin and the reforms initiated for the country to become attractive for global climate finance investments.
