Only The Brave by Diesel is a Amber Woody fragrance for men. Only The Brave was launched in 2009. Only The Brave was created by Alienor Massenet, Olivier Polge and Pierre Wargnye. Top notes are Amalfi Lemon and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Violet, Virginia Cedar and Coriander; base notes are Amber, Leather, Benzoin, French labdanum and Styrax.

In cooperation with the house of L`Oreal, Diesel presents their perfume Only The Brave, the first solo edition aiming at men. The perfume will arrive on wider market end of March or beginning of April, depending on your region. This edition was inspired by founder of the brand Diesel, Renzo Rosso, and an RR tattoo on knuckles, which he gave to himself for his 50th birthday. The perfume is directly connected with holding company Only The Brave owned by Rosso, as well as by eponymous charity foundation.

Its flacon is a real sculpture of glass, shaped like a fist, coloured in smoky-greyish nuances, with a silver ring with an inscription of the Diesel brand. Concept of Only The Brave accentuates oriental, leather and woody accords, which are masculine, determined and brave, with clear contrasts. The perfume opens with masculine and modern notes of leather, which is closely connected with the brand itself. The composition is refreshed with lemon and sparkling, fresh aromas, adding amber and woody accords of cedar. The perfume was developed by three noses of the house of IFF: Alienor Massenet, Olivier Polge and Pierre Wargnye.

Only The Brave is a fragrance for all men who chose to be heroes. Its composition introduces harmony of oriental-woody notes which leave a strong impression. Game of contrasts between fresh notes of lemon and mandarin with violet, cedar and coriander is leading us to warm accords of amber along with leather nuances (styrax and labdanum) and benzoin in a base. Liveliness of lemon introduces its luminous sparks above a romantic, floral heart and leaves a warm, leather-resin trail in base notes of the fragrance.

Video clip is still being polished up and printed advertising campaign is completed with black and white portraits. Photographer of the campaign is British Platon, who took photos of many famous persons, including President Barack Obama. The advertising photos feature Tony Ward, actor and model, among others.

Assortment of perfume Only The Brave includes eau de toilette in three amounts: 30, 50 and 75 ml, with 100 ml after shave lotion and balm, 200ml perfumed baths and 150 ml deo sprey.

I dont really hate this Fragrance. But to me i dont know why, i think its disgusting. Even one of my fav perfumers made it Olivier Polge and Pierre Wargnye. Something is so off puting. i think the combo between the citruses and the leather dont really work for me. I gave it a try sometimes, buit after a while i just want to wash it away from me.

Bottle's energy definitely doesn't match the fragrance lol. Other than that nice everyday casual go to fragrance. Nothing too outstanding but has a great smell. Nice more playful alternative to classic office fragrances.

Nerdboy83

A nice citrusly, woody, casual, calm, playful, juvenile fragrance that was nicely blended. Nothing really groundbreaking about this, definitely smell vintage. This doesn't smell modern with today's stuff on the market. This is not an attention grabber or a crowd pleaser. But you can still receive compliments & it's still decent enough to have in your collection.

The longevity is pretty good for it not to have any musk added to it. But I still to layer my cologne with essential oils that are inspired by the fragrance itself to get the performance that I truly desire without having to keep overspraying.

I would only wear this for.

1)Job/Office.
2)Gym.
3)Outdoor activities.
4)Hanging with the fellas.
5)Running a few errands.
6)Dressing casual or vintage.
7)Hanging with women younger than 35 years old.
8)Daytime.

I wouldn't necessarily reach for this.

1)Fall/Winter.
2)Dressing down or sophisticated.
3)Attending a formal event.
4)Trying to be noticed.
5)Evenings/Nights.
6)Clubbing/Party Atmosphere.
7)Hanging with women over 35 years old.

opening is terrible. smells like bug spray and barbershop but dry down is nice but i somehow find this similar to tom ford black orchid

BGBG

Doft leather scent with violet. Nice. A bit similar to UDV but softer.

Histamine

Can be a dumb reach bottle. Inoffensive, does not smell bad but is booooring and not memorable at all. May be ok if you are not into fragrances and just want to smell somewhat pleasant. Anyone with more than two fragrances can do without this.

WRS

Smells like 2010. (I normally write more but i think that sums it up perfectly 😂)

travisscottlover911

Boring scent, if you have other good fragrances you dont need this

FragranceAnon

Excellent scent. Sweet, but still masculine. Good longevity and projection. Price is right on discounters. Really pops off the skin in warm weather.

A firm "like" for me... If "synthetic" mean "smells great," then, yea, this smells synthetic.

And, not that it matters much, but the bottle looks awesome.

appelsinan

It's way too synthetic and makes my nose burn and it gives me a headache. Would not recommend.

JensK

A good cheap fresh and non offensive fragrance that you can wear anywhere

sniffme2017

If you see this scent for what is is: a cheapie with pretty good performance and an overall crowd pleasing profile, you won't be disappointed. I picked this up at the duty free for dirt cheap. It became a fun summer/beach fragrance for me and got me quite a couple of compliments. It's also perfect for chucking it in your bag to reapply at the club etc.
It's fresh, yet sweet, a bit ambery and musky. Typical synthetic designer, but I'm not mad about it. It's a inoffensive fragrance for the younger crowd.

Dimmuburger

No need to hate on this one. It's a generic, synthetic, but good smelling and extremely affordable men's cologne. Lasts a good long while, and inoffensive enough for ubiquitous wearing throughout the year. This and Diesel Bad both remind me of something my grandfather used to wear. So despite being two modern generic cheapies, there's some eighties DNA to what diesel puts out. Good for any age, if you can find this for twenty bucks, don't let the goofy bottle fool you. It won't be your all time favorite, but it's as safe a dumb blind daily reach as there is.

KodyKratom

I've bought this multiple times. I'm buying another bottle later today as a gift to myself. I get compliments all the time from both men and women. The projection is moderate, and it last all day for me sometimes tou need a touch up through out the day. Just 1 or 2 sprays.. it's very masculine and I can wear it day, night, and all 4 seasons. It's way worth the price!

SmellFragDaily

This is definitely at scent that has grown on me, saw it for cheap and decided to pick it up (although I’ve smelt it previously and hated it). I’ve gotta say it’s very different to anything else I’ve smelt and I quite like it now. It smells like a shower gel in a good way, very heavy on the amber and leather when it dries down. Lasts around 5-6hrs. Overall I’d give it a solid 7/10. Not something I’d wear daily but I can definitely see someone wearing this as a signature.

RobbieX

A nice men's cologne. Nicely blended. Starts of fruity and woody. Dries down with violet, amber and woods which reminds me of Cavalli Just
The overall effect is pleasant and versatile.
Longevity and silage are both good.
This is the sort of perfume I could reach for anytime and when you're not sure what to wear.
The bottle is a bit tacky but, somehow, I love it. A pleasant and safe EDT.

benlippi

Pleasantly surprised. Love the powdery amber dry down. Very cozy.

Go4buck

I had to purchase this again since it is the first perfume I ever bought in my college years 15 years ago. It doesn't last the same but nowadays I just use it as an indoor fragrance for me, a good projection for home not to bother my partner, but alas a perfume that ties me to so many memories.

Saul_Goodmens))

i dont have high standards for perfumes but this one is very mid, i tried loving it for 3 months since i bought it and spraying it every other day but it just isnt that enjoyable to wear, the scent itself is quite nice especially the opening but nothing exceptional. maybe if it had good to decent to performance but with it disappearing from my skin after an hour i dont see how its "better" than other freshie perfumes that cost less or the same.

JSnipeZ

This one started it all for me. Actually first discovered it from a scent strip in a magazine before it was out. Instantly fell in love. If my memory serves me, I got this on the first day of release back in 2009 at Sephora.

Now, I am too uneducated to meaningfully comment on reformulations but I do feel the original batch I have from 09 has a more pronounced freshness to contrast the syrupy heaviness and layers of this scent - making this an absolutely stunning fragrance. Regardless, this cologne newly made or not has always stood out to me. There is something so beautiful and bold here that I can’t seem to put into words. A masterfully crafted balance of light and dark is the best description I can muster. Also, the greatest wafts of magic come at unexpected moments with this one and I love that.

The art of the bottle design… There is so much creativity to applaud. The fist is so dang cool. Life is too short to not enjoy “tacky” bottles like this. To me this is not tacky at all since there is so much purpose in the design, from the in-your-face fist that perfectly illustrates the concept of “only the brave”, the option of vertical or horizontal placement, the stunning colour, to the metal accents. I still remember that initial magazine ad and tester, thinking to my younger self “that cologne bottle is a fist!? I gotta have it” It drew me in then and still captivates me now. Just awesome.

Afc_Croatian

So my friend gets in my car and immediately I am struck with something sweet.
To my nose, it just smelled like he sprayed too much Versace Eros.

He tells me nah it's Diesel Only The Brave...

The Scent from Boss smells very similar. I guess Only The Brave is the original and The Sent from Boss is inspired by it.

senad05

OG Fragrance. Nothing special, but smells pretty good!

[email protected]

After covid my nose permemantly changed and most fragrances project and choke me with chemical ether like fumes.

Only the brave does not do that.

It is smooth and nice immediatly after spraying and stays that way all day.

If i sniff my clothes I still smell it at the end of the day.

hpeeters

I cannot recommend this enough! It is definitely strong, more of a night time scent. I smell a burst of freshness that quickly follows with cedar, coriander and LEATHER! Love these notes all together. This scent is very TOUGH smelling but also modern and not outdated. I really suggest this for the masculine man. I think this one would attract the ladies honestly! It smells like confidence, strength, cleanliness and maturity. Everything we want in a man? I think so!
Update: My hubby had 2 negative reviews from female co-workers after 1st day wearing this at work. I told him not to listen to them! Just dont overspray this, it is strong. 1 or 2 sprays. He will stick to his nauticas for daily wear and this will become a night scent. Too bad because I love this, some people are literally no fun! PS: I spray this on myself at night, I just love it that much.

JeremyFragnanceLeftNut

I personally think that, what we have here, is an outdated, boy-ish/teen-ish perfume. I bought this perfume about 13-14 years ago. An old friend of mine had it and, at the time, I did like the smell because it was new and interesting to me. being in HS at the time, it felt right wearing it. Being 28 years old right now, I don't particularly hate it, but I don't particularly love it and I'll probably not wear it anymore (also cause it lost its potency over the years). Nobody at the time, where I'm from for the most part, really wore ''big brands'' perfumes like Gucci, Dolce, especially in high school, so this was really a go-to kind of smell at the time. Right now, all I can think of or imagine when I smell this odor is the smell of retail and the words ''douchebag with black glasses that wears a small G-Star t-shirt''. Chances are, if you wear this perfume, you drive a BMW, an AUDI or an old Honda civic.

naturebounty2

here's a big punch for you!
Sweet, fresh and lasts all day. The base notes are my favorite with a touch of leather. The bottle might be weird, but who cares when the juice is this good? Perfect for young men who want something vibrant. It reminds me of Invictus, but I like this one better.
I wish the market was flooded with flankers of this perfume.

Roman86

All I get is some faint sweetness and some cedar underneath. The scent is rather weak and unremarkable and nothing like some of the older reviews talk about where the scent pushes off the skin. I'm guessing it has been reformulated like one of my favorites Diesel Fuel for Life which was once a strong and lively scent but became a shadow of its former self.

CitrusFanPL

Shower gel scent, smells like L'Oreal taurine shower gel and for the money one pays I would not suggest this.
The smell you get is rather old school and rather powdery (no wonder, it is from 2009) but could be worn by younger men too.

The only upside is that it is cheap and rather inoffensive. Can use for office wear as in opinion and I highly disagree with some that this is a "club fragrance" as it has nowhere near the projection and sweetness of a night out frag.

Overall as a fragrance I give this 2/5.

TinDines

BigLongNose

This just smells very generic and safe, you won’t offend anybody with this scent and won’t impress anyone either. Citrus shower gel with some leathery undertones. You can find much better stuff!

skibidibop

This fragrance is just soo good. It doesnt have any cons almost only pros. Its my signature scent and its a beautiful everyday wear. Everyone likes this one. Its fresh and a little sweet and fruity. I found 50 ml for 30 dollars and i think that is a steal even tho it doesnt projects very well.

mr acqua

As people say it has been reformulated but in my opinion for the best.

The changes (IMO) are noticeable at the beginning where is not as citrus as before, before was a BLAST of citrus, strong, and now is more fruity/citrus like 80/20 and after that now is more masculine than before, before it was very violet, very flowery smell, unisex like. Now its more balanced and has more ambar from beginning to end.
It smell good, not formal, more like playful/date scent.
Last a lot, and if you need more then spray it on clothes.

Spadz97

I got this fragrance after asking one of my friends what he was wearing and it happened to be this fragrance. After owning the fragrance and becoming more familiar with it, I really like this fragrance and it has a great spot in my rotation. It projects massively and lasts about 6hrs on my skin. Extremely versatile also as I've been using it in the winter and it's still a phenomenal performer for me and smells amazing. I love the bottle aswell and looks great with the rest of my collection. I look forward to trying more diesel fragrances if they are all as good as this and I also need to mention that the ladies absolutely love this scent. If you're trying to impress the ladies then you cannot go wrong with this masculine, fresh fragrance.

jlog23

Received a carded sample of this with a recent purchase of mine. Been spraying it on my sheets before bed. It’s pleasant enough. It kinda gives me an axe body spray type vibe. Definitely not FB worthy, but an interesting experience for a couple nights the sample lasted.

etee

This was my first fragrance, my uncle gave it to me after he gave me something else :/

cologneboi

something about this is smokey, and i like it. i got some compliments from this. woody goodness.

Guitar 2016

It's a nice scent, Ambery, Leathery and Woody, A bit synthetic. It opens up with like citrusy and floral and slightly spicy notes in the background then dry down is sweet Ambery Leathery. Longevity is average and perfect for the spring, summer and fall. The art of bottle design is very Wonderful and Unique . I like Only The Brave Diesel EDT for Men.

Erm…going to say this, this was perfect for the time, well perfect for period of late Autumn/Early Winter in 2009 UK.

Just that small window of time; other than that. It’s soo soo bland. It’s amazing how it does nothing interesting and it just is. I cannot get over how unremarkable it is

a2zbeats

Purchased a sample vial from MicroPerfumes. Fragrantica calls this an "Amber Woody" fragrance, but I'm not getting that at all. This is more like an Amber Fruity fragrance. Smells very citrusy, very strong on the leather and amber. I don't know why, but to me I almost smell an "oatmeal" kind of scent when I'm wearing this... Maybe from the coriander? Not sure.... Not really for me, but I can definitely see how some people love this stuff.

6.9/10

KaziRumee

A very citrusy opening, complimented by the woody notes and amber, thats all that comes to my nose, i dont get anything else, this has that fresh out of the shower vibe, projections is very good for the first hour or two it fills the whole room, lasts well too, i get about 6 hours with this, do not pay retail price for it tho the 200ml bottle that i bought cost £90 but luckily i got it for half the price because of Christmas, and if you do like the frangrance i recommend you buy the 200ml because you need to spray like 4 5 times to get the performance

A1finesse

A more synthetic and juvenile acqua essenziale blu by ferragamo could be a cousin of Versace Eros a synthuc ambery blue fragrance worth the $20 I got it for performance is yet to be known

"Only The Brave by Diesel is a Amber Woody fragrance for men"
It Smells -Lemony- Way More Than -Ambery- ,Besides It Doesn't Smell -Woody- At All

Jarmen176

amazing performance

killaman

It's pretty good for the price. Opening smells very fresh and aquatic (citrus and orange), surprisingly its not cloying like other citrus fragrances. Drydown is something very different, but its very pleasant, same vibes as one million.

Very clean frag, way wayy ahead of its time, but not dated in any sense. Lasts around 24h on my cardboard tester strip.

Quentinutter22

Smells like lacost lhomme intense but stronger. Better buy. Still stinks to high heavens. Like a wet diaper. I get why somebody would enjoy it. But it ain’t for me. I wanna try tattoo.

leonel.fagereng

This was my first fragrance. Smells citrusy at the start, but turns into a amber and leather scent. Lasts long with good projection throughout the day. Very teenager fragrance.

Luke.walstow

My last review was pretty harsh mainly because of the reformulation and it was frustrating. But if you look past the fact that is only lasts 4 hours the smell is good, you get a nice citrus in the opening but in the dry down I get a dry vanilla which is not listed which is nice, if you can get a 50-75ml on offer from NOTINO for around 25-30$ just blind buy it.

taryn renee

This fragrance is solidly unisex. It is also an incredibly pleasant fragrance. I don't mind that it only lasts 3 hours, because I look forward to reapplying. Those top notes are so delicious. The heart notes hover like an aura, I don't feel like I am necessarily wearing anything, but instead as if the entire world is anew with just plain good smelling happiness.

Luke.walstow

If your going to buy this fragrance DONT! mid 2021 it has been reformulated and has gone from 8 hour performance to about 2,4 with 3-6 sprays buy something else.

Invasionbg

I smelled this today and it smells completely different and the performance is so bad. I bought a bottle in 2019 and I had good 8 hours minimum with it. Maybe it's been reformulated?!

gurugaraklee

This frag opens with a quite sharp and swift citrus; very distinct and easy to recognise the lemon and the mandarin.
Shortly you'll eventually start to get the violet coming through and add a floral background to that distinct citrus before the latter completely gives way to a very pleasant light soapiness; a lot lighter and lot softer than other soapy scents I'd say. Longevity is okay, about six hours, but it stays quite close to the skin for the most part throughout.

Overall, I think this is decent. There isn't anything groundbreakingly spectacular nor is there anything atrocious. An appealing dumb-reach scent that will do what it is supposed to; the flankers are definitely better than this one though.

sameenuk

its ok. Nice dumb reach, which is ironic when the bottle is in the shape of a dumb reach. Nice cheap fragrance for a sunny day. I don't really get the amber notes but i like the opening

anthonycball

Have you ever found a fragrance you liked, but refused to buy because you hated the bottle? That's my love-hate with Diesel Only The Brave.

Call me superficial, but I just can't picture myself looking at this heinous, tacky bottle everyday... Even though I found the scent to be pleasant and well-rounded; an easy reach, go-to fragrance.

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who owns 4 Armaf's and Toy Boy... Yet still a big no on this one. Sorry.

Btmfdr

I found this sickening, cloying and generic. I have nothing positive to say about this classless fragrance.

chairat.luck.pluem

SenselessReviews

Meet "Only the Brave." It is a sophisticated scent that just happens to come in a bottle depicting a man pleasuring himself. If that is your idea of bravery, then I'm Mahatma freakin' Gandhi.

"Only the Brave" burst onto the scene as a high-end clone of the 1980s powerhouse "Mr. Miyagi's Pants." Perfumer Frankie Deoyashitsu-Choyleeleewa (no relation to "Big Bubba" Deoyashitsu-Choyleeleewa) creates some interesting twists. His use of cashew and octopus is a surprise, but as those notes fade we are left with what some describe as a "skanky grandma" aroma. Longevity is non-existent, as this stuff disappears faster than a guy who just heard "You are the father!" during a taping of "Maury."

I like to place my two "Only the Brave" bottles on either side of my bottle of "Le Male," making it look like "Le Male" has two big, invisible arms (and, apparently, two boyfriends). I sum it up in five words: Theo Huxtable in a bottle. It tries to be flashy and gangsta but comes off as harmless and mainstream. It tries to be bold and sensual but comes off like Christopher Walken's shower gel. I can think of better things to do involving a fake hand.

[email protected]

This one is elegant, unique and long lasting.

It is smells like: soap, white leather, graphite, musk, sweet clear jelly, a hint of orange, a hint of vanilla.

When it fades it does smell like luxury fabric softener. It is an excellent cuddly fragrance.

Teddylah

Great versatile daily aftershave. Received a few compliments in work about this, asking me what aftershave I use because it smells very nice. Has sneaky performance, 6-7 hours with good projection for the fist 2 hours. Good for the price as I bought 50ml for under £30. 9/10

overtsaceie

So typical and look very cheap even it has very nice notes. Recommend to use it in everyday except your special events.

I'm so bias because this smell like my ex, thank you but next!

Some citruses, some woods, some bubblegummy sweetness. Nothing exciting to see here

I had no intention of trying this perfume but a sales assistant recommended it and I am pleasantly surprised. I can understand the “generic” comments but that doesn’t matter when you smell this good. Quite versatile that wouldn’t be out of place anywhere but would shine on a night out.

sangfroid7

Most people will probably find it familiar for two reasons: it's widely worn and it's somewhat generic. Yet very well-blended and nice-smelling. Casual, not formal. Would go well with designer denim and not much else. Check out the flankers if it doesn't work for you, they stand up well on their own.

Tara Fiouzi

From a girl´s point of view this smells super sexy and uplifting, I don´t know how to describe the scent, all I can say is that whenever my boyfriend wears this I just want to bury my nose in his neck and keep smelling him until the scent goes away!
I think it´s appropriate for 18 to 40 years old men. I repurchased a bottle for my boyfriend cause I think he should keep wearing this perfume.

karlee79

I’m a female and I’m I love with this and I wear it all the time and get compliments from men all the time

Al.green

Sweet, soapy, cloying, linear, cheap. Inoffensive? Yeah, but also shows no character.

Pass for me.

wookiesen

My boyfriend had this when we met and I have purchased more bottles for him during the years. I know some think this is generic but really, as a girl this is one of the best perfumes for males to my nose. He always gets compliments on this one and it is very versatile so one can use it for almost all occasions and seasons. I myself have borrowed it quite a few times, and although I wouldn´t say this is unisex I do think it can fit some girls. I have also received quite a few compliments on this one.
I do however think I (and others) would hate it if it was popular, but here where i live few use it so it isn´t very overused by men here (unlike any armani etc that is very common).

My summary is that it is a compliment getter and very versatile, a good and affordable purchase.

smellsbells

this is so generic. I am convinced that when people say a compliment magnet it means its safe-inoffensive and boring and girls seem to like soap smells and axe body spray smells in general. Now women are someone what diff and will tolerate more agressive daring scents on men as it shows a man is not generic in what his taste is.
These comments i make are not across the board but this scent is so safe its boring to me.

Lets face it....women like boring safe smells on guys....they dont like to rock the boat on a guy

hintysuffix

IMO this has an aggressive shower gel smell that is on the edge of giving me a headache, with moderate sillage. I would say Axe body spray and OTB has the same target group.

Flamingophil

Legendary fragrance, had when it first came out and loved it, haven't had a bottle in years then smelt it on someone the other week and asked what they was wearing and it was this bad boi, my new bottle has arrived and absolutely love this gem can wear all year round in my opinion

binbabalu

Bottle is misleading as this is what I would call a "Safe & Pleasant Crowd Pleasing scent". It instantly reminded me of Guess Seductive and had the same vibe, especially in the opening.

It does smell different in the store on the tester than on my skin. I picked up a bottle on clearance because I like blue/Aquatic Fresh scents. To keep this simple...It smells good and will get compliments if that is what you are after, can work in almost any situation and actually projects more than you would think in the heat so go easy with the sprays.

I get the young vibe from it, but I like it as a nice change up since I tend to not wear many "Sweet Powdery" scents which is what I get from this. I do not get any of the Invictus vibes myself, but It works in Spring/Fall as it can really jump off the skin in the heat. It is a good blue scent regardless of age, not overly masculine which is good at times.

Surprised this is not talked about more. It has the same vibe as many of the most popular scents. Ignore the bottle design, try it out as it is a good value for sure.

Aaron Y.

One of the most affordable versatile compliment magnet. It's not going to blow you away, but it smells great and a bit playful and you will get lots of compliments with this one. a solid 8/10 all around and you can find the 2.5 oz bottle for below $30. wear this one everywhere day or night. girls dig it.

Rob321x

this is a great fragrance and unappreciated

stripez56

Nice blue leather fragrance with a spiky/sharp undertone which i can’t tell what that’s coming from.
My first fragrance, got for 45 but i think it’s more worth 25-30.

I love this scent and you can get it pretty cheap nowadays, I think I bought a 200ml bottle for £45. For me, it easily equals fragrances in the £50/100ml price range in terms of performance and smell. I'd recommend it to anyone as a nice, fresh citrus scent, versatile for pretty much any situation, maybe geared more for the younger crowd but anyone could pull off this people-pleaser.

EssenceofIndigo

Diesel Only the Brave is a critically unmentioned cologne in the Fragrance Community. Much like other Drug Store fragrances. It's kinda hidden in plain site. Like people know about, but it isn't in the conversation as much as most would assume. It's a pretty simple formulation. Sweet amber, it smells the way crystals look.

This cologne makes novelist and experienced Fragrance lovers alike question price tags. And what they know about fragrances. Because it's crazy how a more or less than $30 cologne can receive more compliments than that of triple its price.

Originally got this as a gift, always keep a bottle in my collection.

FreddyK

Manly but not too strong, pretty subtle. I enjoy the scent !

davidgourpage

One word- COMPLIMENTS! That’s all you get when you wear this perfume. I’ve had strangers compliment me. It’s not a fragrance I like personally. I prefer the aquatic fragrances like Davidoff cool water, Salvatore Ferragamo Aqua Essenziale. This fragrance you wear if you want compliments.

stevestyle

Tried this today. Was really surprised. It's got a nice sweetness to it without being cloying. It actually reminds me of versace pour homme with a sweet twist. Will definately pick up a bottle. Love it

KajiraSuzanne

I recently bought this scent for myself more out of curiousity than anything else. I have some co-workers who wear it, and it smelled kind of "unisex" to me. This is a really good fragrance, but not great, a nice blend of leather/light amber/animalic with clean fresh notes and a surprisingly sweet/fruity top note.
Longevity is excellent, with good sillage. It's a little more mainstream than I expected.

Geo_Aroma

I like that one! Amber citrousy flowery sweet fragrance! Great for spring totally safe "blue" fragrance! To my nose is a little aquatic also.. If you re a fun of sweet spring - summer fragrances go for it its compliment getting in really good price!

cyprusman

i have been wearing this perfume for over 10 years. served me just fine, lost of compliments, sweet and manly

Stwmylos

I am sorry but this fragrance has an overplayed DNA, is very boring and has zero identity. It is forgettable and extremely basic, in a bad way. Very mediocre stuff. You can do so much better.

Fresh, youthful and a bit soapy perfume. I always get this "hands after soap" smell, which is not bad but its nothing special. I love its opening the most, which lasts 5 minutes, then something annoys me in it. I won't buy it but it's not a bad smell.

UnorthodoxPhotographyGuy

Ok so let's start the long story short for the Blind Buyers who might want this cologne. It's beautiful and still one of my favorite scents I own. If you like masculine, deep rich sweet scents that are very smooth like Dolce & Gabbana The one. You'll likely enjoy Only the brave.

This cologne walked into my life by accident. I bought a used broken car I was fixing up to learn stick on. The glove box had this bottle in it. Immediately tried it and fell in love. Still to this day about 10 years later I still absolutely love it.

It's sweet but not too sweet. It's rich and masculine.
Lovely for date night type cologne.

Its longevity is a bit mixed from moderate to good depending on temperature. Clings to clothing nicely. Great fall/winter scent but I have worn this personally in spring and summer no problem as it works with my skin well.

Still a lovely scent in the current market of fragrances. If you haven't tried it, definitely give it a shot.

Other favorites that I enjoy that may help someone deciding:
-Starwalker Extreme
-John varvatos Dark Rebel
-John varvatos JVXNJ Red
-Vince Camuto (Original)

With a few sprays left in the bottle I want to pay homage to this scent. Its been one of my best perfume friends in my project and as the scorching desert heat now at its peak, this will remain one of the best weapons. I will surely miss the light gin/vodka drydown and will go back to this when I get a new bottle. Not too soon though for I have other scents to try on for sure. Muchas gracias amigo!

I'm telling you right now if you want to be the life of the party then wear this!! If you want to smell good for women and be noticed then this is it! It's masculine and it's sweet! This is a very appealing fragrance for any situation! Wear it anywhere where there are women! Man Diesel makes some really good and well made fragrances for the guys that rock! I give this a 9.5/10

Bfreepro417

Wow! Surprisingly amazing. Sweet, citrusy, SUPER fresh and pleasing, it's very, very refreshing. I could easily see this as my go-to in summer and spring, it's just really nice. I can see why some may think it's too sweet, but personally, I love it. It has VERY impressive longevity and projection as well, seriously, the performance is BEASTLY. The bottle is kinda dumb, yeah, but I don't care, and if you care about a bottle, well, that's really weird honestly. I think I even like this better than Dior Sauvage and some other frags that get praise lopped on them because they're expensive and powerful, etc. I donno, it's just very nice, well made for a modern/young scent. I think it's definitely for a younger man, it's very vibrant and youthful, and all around, an incredible scent. It combines everything I love about different categories... crisp, fresh citrus, balanced by smooth and sweet amber, given depth by natural florals and woods, and wrapped in a refined and classy leather wrapper. Truly great stuff, it quickly became a favorite, as I have so many scents I enjoy, I do feel this combines the best of them all and to top it off, performs on par with some of my EDPs. It is a bit sweet and could be deeper with more woody spice, that would make it perfect, but it’s a great scent nonetheless, very young and vibrant, as opposed to refined and sophisticated. This definitely covers the same ground as something like Invictus, but Only The Brave does it much, much better imo.

I love this one! It has everything I want in a fragrance: nice scent, pleasing, great performance and longevity, versatile, can be a signature scent.

BigDickson

Citrus & musk on top of an out of place discordant leather. Kind of gross, but will garner compliments.

MacGuffin

I am wearing this today to work as my weapon of choice against the scorching desert sun. Its hard to believe that this was released years before Invictus because they are similar and has the same vibe. The sweetness is just right, and longevity is good. So underrated scent.

Unmodernize

Incredibly good to my nose. An easy recommend for anyone, any occasion.

MacGuffin

The sweetness in the opening is just right. It smells similar to another favorite Davidoff Brilliant Game minus the heavy liquor/booze notes, and also similar to Versace Eros. The balance of top-mid-base notes are just right. It's a keeper for me. Rating 8/10

4scentsin1day

This is a more playful, louder, ''younger'' smelling version of Dolce and Gabbana The one.

If The one is a mature, well dressed and reserved man on a date, Diesel Only The Brave is a young, energetic 18 year old who's in the club with one goal in mind... garnering attention from women.

This is a masterpiece, every young bloke needs to give this a try.

Pawly

This is something you can‘t really go wrong with. It‘s fairly generic, has some leathery smell to it and isn‘t as sweet as some others in this price range. It‘s definitely a masculine scent but not a fantastic „wow-scent“. I personally wouldn‘t say it a compliment getter, nor an offensive one. It‘s just something you can wear to any occasion on a daily basis and while some people might notice it, most of them will probably just think „yep, another perfume I guess.“
The bottle is certainly different and I do like it, but it doesn‘t suit it‘s style. I think this is a very elegant scent and a fist doesn‘t really work for that. But that shouldn‘t stop you from getting, or at least trying it. It‘s good, cheap and nice. Nothing more, nothing less.
Strangely I think it smells exactly like Boss the Scent - this one is just a lot cheaper.

forumek

very heavy on amber warm quite sweet? smells very similar to gucci guilty intense if not the same!
not for me
but longevity is good

mazga

I received a decant of this with my MB Explorer purchase. I have to say I like this one more as scents go. And might I add a lot more performance as well.

In my opinion Diesel's marketing and design departments did a terrible job with this one as the juice colour and bottle design have nothing in common with the smell itself. A classier bottle and a more ambery juice would have made them a lot more money over the years imo.

JoelBar

Smells like regular shower gel.

YYY_Delilah

The counterpoint of the tart lemony (& mandariney) citrus and the sultry resiny components (is there real labdanum in this?) - labdanum, styrax, etc - is wrought very effective in this, nothing of the nature of a conflict or clash of them ever making out ... and it's very amber-heavy - far more so than you would ever think at the first draught of this 'off the cardboard': I was getting 'haunted' by some very stout & sanguine shimmery amber-trails as I was going around, often thinking they must have been coming from someone else's perfume, when infact they were coming from mine. And it's just occured to me that the other one that behaved like this recently was also a Diesel - the Bad Intense. I've got some Loverdose somewhere - I think I'll dig that out and give it a proper excursion sometime soon.

Stunning Clubbing Fragrance
***********************************
I sample over 20+ fragrance in Kohl today, and this came out as my #1 favorite. The Scent is Sweet yet very Masculine. This fragrance has a KICK and project off my skin so strongly that it overpowered all other fragrance I test spray on my skin. This is a Thick Syrupy kind of scent (like Thallium) with beastly performance. This is strong enough to compete against 1 Million, Versace Eros, Invictus, and Armani Stronger with You.

✓ Sweet Fruity Amber
✓ Great performance
✓ Synthetic Bubblegum smell
✓ hint of 2016 Invictus Aqua

*************************************************
Ahead of its TIME in 2009, Great for 2018
*************************************************

Sadly Only-the-Brave is ahead of its time created in 2009 when Men's cologne were very conservative aquatic or green woody. Men's fragance has gotten a lot sweeter since 2009. Compare to some of the modern men's fragrance in 2018:

• 1 Million Luck is about 8x sweeter
• JPG Ultra male is about 4x sweeter
• Armani Code Profumo is also 4x sweeter
• Armani Stronger with you is about 4x sweeter
• Azzaro Wanted is also 4x sweeter
• Versace Eros is about 1.5x sweeter

***********************************************
Don't listen to (Weak Minded) Fragheads
***********************************************

BE BRAVE & form your own independent opinion. If I slap a fancy Armani brand on this fragrance, fragheads will proclaim it to be a masterpiece. Take a look @Armani Code Profumo:against Only the Brave

✓ both are Sweet Leathery scent (not masculine animalic)
✓ both are Uber Sweet Club scent borderlining feminine
✓ both are Fruity Ambery fragrances
✓ both are Panty Droppers (women ♥ them)

Yet one is praise as Masterpiece, and DIESEL is ridicules as a sweet girly scent. In reality, Armani Code Profumo is 4x SWEETER than OTB without much hint of freshness.

The closest smelling fragrance is probably PB Invictus Aqua. They smell similar off my skin with similar projection & longevity. I think I just found my own cheaper alternative to the discontinued 2016 Invictus Aqua. They don't smell alike up closed, but from a distant, they give off same smell & vibe.

Halseycm

A semi sweet, amber and leather mixed with citrus. I love this scent. I've been wearing this for a couple years now. It seems not too well known (or at least in my area) so it's easier to use it and smell unique. This is basically my second signature scent right behind Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man. The performance on this is wonderful. 8+ hours longevity with 4 solid hours of projection. Projects wonderfully for those 4 hours. 3-6 feet. Then gets closer to skin. I really really love amber scents. And the amber in this just captivates me. It's like a masculine "create your own path" type of amber. And the leather only makes it better. Rugged, masculine, but sexy and alluring. I've gotten many compliments with it. The ladies love it, it just draws them in. It's sweet but not too sweet. It can definitely be worn any time of year but daytime hot summer heat may be questionable. I recommend this to everyone. This just smells like the man I want to be.

JF Dufour

I like.

It remembers (top notes) me a fruiter, fresher and more energetic version of Gucci Guilty.

IMO, it's a safe scent. It can be sexy. There is a hint of « humf ! ».

Synthetic and clean : fruity-amber.

It's not sophisticated.

Rather versatile, but it's a better choice in the cold months.

The performance is good.

The morning, when you spray this eau de toilette before you go to the office, you feel invigorate and confident !

Benrobles_2

This kind of reminds me of English Laundry Riviera and Chanel Allure Homme Sport. This is a nice fragrance and lasts 10+ hours on my skin and days on my clothes.

MattTheScenario

I really like this fragrance. It must be very well blended or just how it’s made but for me i can’t really pin point any perticular notes. I get a blended smell really that to me smells of like a cosmetic section.... with all the frags and the makeup mixed together. To me this totally has a makeup kinda vibe (like when you smell all the gf’s makeup that nice smell all together) I get that in this frag but done in a manly way if possible.

scentitar

I guess I fall in the hate group, like I do with bond no 9

This is a aromatic with some sweet aspects and a overall gasoline smell. Dior Fahrenheit did it much better, but a aromatic and sweet take on the dna would be interesting. Ferrari uomo from the essence line is cheap, modern and lovely take on that fahrenheit dna.

Overall this gives me a headache overtime, like spice bomb and is noticeable synthetic to the point of being unpleasant.

I dislike this and do not recommend it.

Bvlgari Man in black or ferrari uomo are similar and much better fragrances than this in my opinion.

Forever Neil

Women love this scent, but I consider this as one of my most disliked fragrances besides 1 million. I started off with Only The Brave Tattoo when it was first released, mainly because I really loved the design of the bottle, and the short initial whiff. I then went over to an online retailer and blind bought the original. IMO, the originals are usually better than the flankers. Of course, this has a great opening just as OTB Tattoo. For me this scent smells juvenile, and becomes irritating to wear. There aren't any notes that help me relax or make me feel confident. I feel like a pretty violet flower. Now, here's why I continued to wear it. Women complimented me with this fragrance, and said "This is you". In real life, I'm a pretty nice and quiet guy and many felt that this matched my personality. I took it the wrong way, and thought "They think I'm an innocent little butterfly like this scent". One woman in particular would scream out during faculty meetings "I'm sitting next to Neil because he always smells good". Then she would ask me "What happened to your Diesel fragrance?". Well, that's my story. If you'd like to follow me on utube, I'll be over there under the same name. Thanks for reading.
for me: ⭐
for women: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tattootommy44

I have had this particular smell in my rotation since 2009. It was dropping panties then and now that I'm 42 and it still drops the panties of the women my age. True story. This will always stay in my rotation. It's kinda become my ol go to.

Ellej32

Amazing sweet masculin fragrance that could work for a 15 or a 50 year old. To me this is a casual fragrance that can be worn all year round, one of the male fragrances I first fell in love with. Unique bottle too. I could smell this all day long. A massive compliment getter

Like most citrusy colognes it's a crowd-pleaser, its also unisex imo.
moderate longevity and sillage and despite the price and not-so-unique scent, pass.

Raysmooth

Am I the only one that gets a bubblegum vibe with this fragrance?I even get like a aquatic vibe to,for some reason it reminds me of 2018 invictus aqua or like 1 million mixed with chanel allure homme,it's a great smelling fragrance that last long as well with great projection,im a older guy and I love this scent and just want to say that everything that smells fruity or like bubblegum isn't always for the young crowd

razmale_kl

wearable, nice scent fragrance. nothing WOW to me. but it makes sense now where is Dior Sauvage coming from. this used to be so famous among the dude. i'm not saying Sauvage smell 100% like this..but there's a strong vibe of DOTB on Dior Sauvage if u know what i mean.

like everyone says here: nothing extraordinary. but it's not a bad fragrance. i'm sure everyone can pull it off. 7/10

FlirtBoy

I must admit I am not brave enough to test it again...

When I did that several years ago, I found it to be rather unpleasant ambery-juvenile-clubbing type of scent which was too overpowering...not bad but not for me

(on the other hand, I like the Wild version a lot (that one in dark green bottle)

CMTHUNDERS

i just got guess seductive homme, and the sweet, amber, powderyness is very similar to only the brave, except only the brave had this BEAUTIFUL citrus/leather note to it that just makes it one of the BEST sweet scents ever!! if you like this, youll like guess seductive homme

Raysmooth

This fragrance isn't just for the youthful I'm 30 plus and I rock this,it's in my rotation cause it smells that good, this fragrance could be pulled off all year and is a good club scent cause it projects really well,9 out of 10 for me cause it's blended well and I only paid 25 for a 2.5,a cheapie but goodie

CMTHUNDERS

juvenile shnuvinile, this smells sooo good!!

Cazz04

A new edition to my shelf 2017. Packaging delivers on it's "brave" title, not so the fragrance. Worn it for 12 months now.. enjoy daytime use. Renders continual appeal with friends when wearing it out.

Scent: 3.5/5. Semi-sweet, masculine, average man.
Longevity: 3/5. Sits close to skin post-30min. 3-4hrs total.
Sillage: 4.7/5. Pleasant appeal. Generally noticed.
Versatility: 4/5. Most appropriate for outdoor smart-casual occasions. Warmer/sunnier weather.

Overall: 15.2/20.

Sidenote: A tad expensive, worth a season. Not in re-purchase category.

boyan_v

OK, first test drive today, well it is not that potent as you guys say it is. I went with 3-4 sprays on my neck and got a decent projection for about an hour and a half and just about 4-5 hours of longevity. Lets hope that it would perform better in warmer weather.

Midnight Lady

I wasn't sure about this frag after spraying it - smelled completely without depth, just and OK scent, like a shower gel.

But nah, I was wrong: the drydown is lovely. I get leather, amber, small sign of lemon, and then leather, leather. I'm a leather fan and here it's quite well executed I gotta say: it's gentle and delicate. It's not a raw, dirty kind of leather you can find in Bvlgari Black but it still has a little bit of earthiness to it.

Smells like a safe to go fragrance, definitely suitable for spring and summer. Stays close to skin and I would swear I smell some musk as well, although not listed here.

leon226

it was reformulated sadly, all I can smell is a synthetic mess. I love the original but this one is very bad. and I thought unpopular fragrance won't get reformulated

Eyedean

You really don’t need to be brave to wear this one. Don’t let the name fool you.
I say it’s a decent scent and it hardly offends anyone. Just a nice juice with no big attitude. I also think more people would like/wear this one if it wasn’t for the tacky bottle. Especially the ones above 30.

That_John_Guy

I finally tried this today for the first time and it was surprisingly good. Sure, I prefer Chanel, Dior, and such, but for the price ($30) Only the Brave stands out. Certainly one can do a heck of a lot worse buying an under $30 fragrance at a discount store.

I can be a frag snob, but my wife is even more picky about what I wear. The sensitive nose on her. The vast majority of frags I try out she does not like, but she thought Only the Brave was acceptable. Seriously, look at the 3 noses behind the development of OtB; they have made some of the best male frags out there.

Yeah, it isn't super-original: lemon on top of spice, wood, and amber. The leather note gave it a more youthful edge. I could see myself wearing it in my 20s. I do like cedar as a note and got a lot of that. I did not find it to be a projection monster or last a really long time, but it lasted longer than most mass market frags by a good amount.

If you are a young, edgy guy searching Fragrantica to find a pretty good frag for under $30, something good but not too far out of the mainstream, I'd say you should try a tester of Only the Brave.

I just smelled it and to me it smells like Versace pour homme mixed with amber I cannot detect the leather tho. I like it I'd wear it but it kinda fades away now about only an hour later (even less) after one spray on the back of my wrist. Anyone aware of some reformulations cause i really dig it and consider buying it in the spring.

MealyAtom98

Damn I love this, and I'll tell you why. It's fresh and masculine, and all you need is two sprays because it lasts and projects like a monster.

Definitely a summer fragrance, but you could also get away with wearing in spring. Best worn for casual events or clubbing, I wouldn't wear this to the office or school unless you want to suffocate people sitting next to you. It can be very cloying if applied heavily.

The scent is not over complicated, it's pretty linear but still smells good. It's simple and fresh, a safe blind buy and a great gift for a young man. You can also get this pretty cheap online, and testers are plentiful online.

CMTHUNDERS

just got my sample of this and THE SECOND i caught a good wiff of it, IT WAS IN MY TOP FAVORITES!!! wow i love it! im buying a bottle fosho

Hugo Montez

This was one of my first fragrances that i smelled. It's unique with the amber-lemon combo but it's very soft on me. And kinda boring. I feel like is missing something. It's pleasant but the price is a little too much for what we have here. Fuel for life it's more interesting, i think. This one gets a 6/10. Its good for a younger guy that want the first fragrance. A good starter.

CHA1995

bash it because your old and washed up, but first smelling this in highschool 2009 i immediately loved it. Never met someone who didn't like this smell. Heavy but smells unreal and lasts all day. Not to brag but being realistic Countless dimes have complemented me and ask what i was wearing after sex and told me to never wear anything different so that is the real test in my opinion. been wearing this since 2009 and it never let me down. Buy it you wont regret it, trust me.

razmale_kl

Am I the only one who smell Hugo Boss The Scent on this one? I usually don't go for citrus fragrance but this one is an exception. I like it

Br'eauDeCologne

Random scent memory: and yes, this is another "reminds me of" post. When I was wearing OTB today, I flashed back to a fragrance from the 90s I used to wear called White Water, by a company named Prestige. It is not listed here on Fragrantica but there are a few listings on eBay. White Water was a little heavier on the vanilla - and not aquatic, despite the name - but could be a very close relative of OTB.

Random note: I wonder how much the bottle design influences all the comments about this being a fragrance for younger people.

karlovonamesti

A youthful fruity amber with some floral woodiness for good measure. I'm not impressed by it and would never wear it, but I understand why people like it. This fragrance smells soapy and clean with just enough musky masculinity to keep it real. If I want fresh soap I have a hundred Drakkar clones (not to mention Sung Homme), but I'm 35. OTB is clearly aimed at guys in their teens and twenties. For that crowd I would prefer Acqua di Gio and Cool Water, but if you must have something newer, you could do worse than this scent.

Thee Maestro

An insanely good smelling perfume, powerhouse performance!

And there's a newly released extreme version floating around. Oh boy! Can you imagine? Mmmmm

Br'eauDeCologne

I bought what I am thinking is the reformulated version. The batch number indicates it was made in December of 2015.

Smooth, slightly creamy leather with a whirl of violet and slightly pungent cedar. That's what my nose picks up. I really like this. It might even be a new favorite.

This is surely a "mass market" fragrance in the sense that it is very familiar. It's not a "chemical mess." I think it is a subtle, long-lasting, masculine fragrance that is very flexible. A perfect choice for the office or when you want to save your niche and/or unusual stuff for other occasions.

Are you feeling brave?

Batch # 38MD02

Knife2

Initially a rather nice scent, but it soon becomes quite cloying. I thought I felt lots of ginger here, but its not listed among notes. Strong sillage and stays for a long time, but not my cup of tea.

mkpunk

I know how people give this fragrance crap. It is typically about it being sweet, it smells cheap, it’s synthetic, it’s a young man’s fragrance, the bottle is gaudy, etc. In a way, this is all true. To me (I haven’t smelt the “flankers” that take a page from the Jean Paul Gauthier special edition packaging but yet the scent don't really change for most) I think it smells like a mass market fragrance. In a way it is a pre-cursor to the sweet citrus Paco Rabanne Invictus open and mid with the leathery base of Antonio Banderas King of Seduction Absolute and some Joop! Jump sweetness thrown in for good measure. You can tell this had an Olivier Polge touch due to the sweetness (Invictus, Spicebomb, Dior Homme, F by Ferragamo Black, etc.)

Only the Brave is not unique. It plays like one of those late 2000’s sweet citrus scents. That said, it is a good one. Especially if you are young or young-at-heart, like geminis including myself. Only the Brave is a bit of a daring scent after the , it is a little bit feminine in the mid and base as it is syrupy from the amber. Only the Brave is a more casual scent you can wear in warmer weather though unlike Invictus, I don’t see why it would be cloying even during the hottest summer day (I don’t find that but many do.)

Only the Brave lasts a school day, even a work day of about eight hours. Though I find it isn't a projection bomb like Invictus but rather medium silage. That's not a bad thing, subdue scents are a good thing. It is best used at school, work or casual use. I also think it is good almost all year round.

Overall I do like Only the Brave, but I find it a little too young for me due to a syrup Amber note and Invictus and Joop! Jump does what this does but better. I ratte Only the Brave a 7.7 out of 10 for this reason.

Seattle Dweller

For the women below trying this fragrance - go for it!

If your skin chemistry can pull it off, the powdery amber dry down has a light playdoough type scent that smells fantastic on my girlfriend. The leather and animalic nature of this Diesel release isnt as strong as one would expect.

However those elements are amped up in the extreme version.

And for the great prices this sells for online these days, it's definitely fun.

sharyssa

Came across this in a gift set at kohls today so i bought it. 22.80 for the 1.7 oz spray and shower gel and aftershave. I won't be using the shower gel or after shave because i am a woman but the cologne yessss. I sprayed the tester at Kohls and this smells good. Im a bit bored with womens perfumes so I am venturing off into the world of men's cologne and this is my second cologne purchase to date. I like the bottle to this I remember when common was the advertising for this cologne. Can't wait to wear it.

fragrancelover23

Thank you JF Dufour for your suggestions

Anast

When i was in highschool i used to wear OTB and it was very good. This leathery powdery trail that follow you by wearing OTB is amazing...excellent longevity, strong sillage... there was something highclass in this cologne.

leon226

Reformulated, don't buy it, I bought one bottle in 2012 and it smells natural and good, in fact one of the best fragrance I have ever smelt, nearly in place of la nuit de l'homme, but in 2016 they put something in it and it smells extremely synthetic, I regretted bought a 4.2 bottle. The fragrance is dead.

erha69

it smells like ripe citrus

Basey85

I received OTB as a present last Christmas and after wearing this fragrance on several occasions, it is similar to Chanel’s Allure Homme with a nice citrus opening which consists of lemon and orange. With middle notes of violet which is very lovely but also faint and it suits this OTB really well, coriander adds that extra spiciness then the aroma transitions into warm amber and a pleasant, alluring leather scent.

Longevity of OTB is 4-7 hours on me and projection is pretty decent with 4-5 hours which is really good as I can still detect this aroma around me and do receive compliments when I wear this which is always a plus, this fragrance works best in the spring and summer seasons.

Overall, I like this fragrance as it feels very casual and comfortable, yet it is more suitable to the younger crowd I’d say, very crisp and clean, a gift that I still appreciate and will continue to use until the very last spray.

TonyAKAMrClean

A little overpriced, but it smells great. It has an almost "berry" scent from the mandarin/violet/leather combination. Projection is amazing, but the downfall for me is longevity. This fragrance tends to last me 6 hours and I feel a little let down at the end of the work day when I notice it's faded away.

If you like this scent and agree that OTB is a daytime scent, I'd like to point out that it melds very nicely with Burberry Brit Rythm as a night time scent. There's something very similar about the two, namely the cedar and leather, but more so Brit Rhythm's juniper berries which compliment the almost bitter berry scent in this that I mentioned earlier. Brit Rythm is a very strong and somewhat sweeter scent however, so it's not for everyone.

All in all, I'm very glad to have this scent in my collection, but I'll likely reach for it on shorter work days, interviews, or possibly early nights out during the week.

Smells fresh and strong. Longevity is like 5h. Good one for summer or business meeting.

Opens like Chanel Allure Pour Homme, then turns into something similar Gucci Guilty for the rest of the dry down but better. Overall, meh.

I think it smells a lot like Gucci Guilty Pour Homme. Same type of scent. Not very good, not very bad either.

dsyben

I liked this in the store and tried it on myself a few times and the performance was great so I decided to buy it. I later sold it after only wearing a few times. I found it to be quite cloying when worn over a long period f time. It is pretty in your face so good for clubbing or a night out but to be honest there are much better scents out there for this purpose.

I tried this today and immediately hated it. In fact, I hate I sprayed it on my hand. For people who say "I hate cologne", this is why. Nothing unique about this at all. Just a gimmicky bottle and headache inducing juice inside. I hate to slam this so hard but there are far better offerings out there for less money. I don't think this is a good fragrance at any price point.

NickZee

The notes pyramid seems off. I get Apple, rose, berries and leather. Definitely no zesty citrus. Good quality but only suitable for occasional use in my opinion.

Saransh101089

I have been wearing this quite a lot lately and contrary to many reviews here, I get a crazy (good crazy) amount of leather in it.

And, I agree with @ineleman, the performance is inconsistent indeed! Having said that, it may be because of olfactory fatigue that I can't smell this on me after 3-4 hours.

All in all, a good cologne and an amazing bottle. It's just that, I find this hard to wear sometimes.

Considering the whether here, I think this one is best suited for autumn.

Overall Score - 6.5/10; Wouldn't recommend a blind buy.

December 2015, New Delhi, India.

fragrancelover23

Anybody who wears this fragrance and gets compliments on it can suggest me something more mature of similar leather amber type fragrance?

fragrancelover23

Great for young boys from 18 to 30. Gets noticed by opposite sex and lot of compliments on this one. Personally its not my favourite cologne but something in it gets me compliments. Heavy projection, average silage and average longevity.

the bottle is Pfff but the fragrance is OK

Raccoonius

Feel as if this fragrance is underrated. The opening isnt very special, but it develops into an extremely satisfying leathery freshness that is hard to describe. The scent itself seems meticulously made, but the performance is inconsistent. Sometimes it lingers while other times it does not. I tend to use more sprays with this compared to other fragrances. It is a versatile vivaldi fragrance and for the price, definitely try it.

MehrSD

I'm not satisfied at all. The scent is great, but both longevity and projection are dramatically weak. I have wasted my money on that product. I expected more from Diesel brand. The only good point of this perfume is the subtle design of the bottle.

Smells good, great for teens, and it lasts and projects okay. Overall pretty moderate. LOVE THE BOTTLE!

When I first smelled a tester of this in the store I couldn't really smell anything because I had been smelling so many other scents... I picked it up anyways since it was on sale and was very cheap and I had heard some good things about it.

I got home and sprayed it after my nose calmed down a bit and didn't really like it... it kind of felt like a generic and boring citrus frag to me.

A few days went by and I gave it another go, I instantly fell in love with it! It didn't even smell like I remembered a few days ago (I didn't get the powdery / amber notes at first for some reason).

To my nose it smells like sparkling & sweet lemon / citrus with amber and a hint of woods with a powdery feel to it. I sort of detect a bit of a leather note but my nose hasn't developed much yet.

Overall a really great, but nothing out of this world, Spring / Summer scent.....I wore this in the cold too and still got a great powdery feel but not much projection even though the longevity was amazing. In the summer this projects like a beast on my skin.

Great fragrance for summer nights.
Citrus, juicy, mineral, animalic leather , with a hint of sweet floral and oriental spice and ambar.

The sweet vibe is not overhealing but don't work with heat place or very warm days.

I love OTB, it's not too synthetic as Fuel for Life.
Good sillage (strong in the first hour) and good longevity.

Otimo perfume para as noites de verão.
Citrico, suculento, mineral, couro "animalico" com um toque floral doce e especiarias e ambar orientais.

A Vibe doce não é exagerada/ sufocante mas não funciona bem com calor e dias muito quente.

Eu amo OTB, não é tão sintético como o Fuel for Life.
Boa projeção (forte na primeira hora) e boa fixação.

A short review.

I have tried this frag over and over again in the beauty store, but I really cannot stand the camphorous opening this one has. The name is Only The Brave, but I say that only wimps and pretty boys buy this perfume as a potency extension. People - especiallly young dudes say that it is nice, the only thing I smell though is vapour rub. unfortunately I can not tell where this annoying note come from in the description, but to me this one is a no no.

And look at the price tag! Really expensive cough relief.

Overall Rating: 3/10

PurseJunkie

It's a shame, really.

I wanted to like this. I was liking it. I liked the strong mandarin orange opening, the little, flitting notes of leather and cedar, the sudden, sweet benzoin, and the gloriously tacky bottle.

I don't like the aquatic mess it turned into or the headache it gave me.

Sorry, Diesel, but I'll have to ask you to keep your fist out of my face.

Raidersteveo

OTB is a weaker version of Ed Hardy Villian for men (which is a clone of D&G The One). It is a sweet amber + citrus juice. Villain is a little stronger in the citrus department and slightly more woody. OTB has a bit of a cardamom vibe reminiscent of YSL La Nuit.
The scent itself is pleasant but the big let-down is the performance in projection and longevity - far too weak for me to give any serious consideration to owning a bottle.

Fragboy92

This is one hell of a parfume. bought this a while ago, as i really liked the bottle at first. upon smelling it smelt really like a normal parfume, nothing special or anything. But having now owned this for a while and using this almost eveeryday shows how good this is. The longivety is ok for about 6 hours. But the sillage is amazing. i have people giving me compliments about the fragrance from all over the room. Its really great as one of your first fragrances. Ideal age is from 18 to 25.

spray_and_pray

I first had this in 2011 and it was a projection/sillage/longevity monster. A real lady killer as well. I was 21 at the time and the girls my age absolutely loved it. A few older women as well. It stayed on skin for a long time and stayed on clothes forever. It is the kind of scent that will make you stand out but at the same time almost everyone can agree that it is really good. I usually wore mine on fall season dates. If it was a girl I had just met, I would rock this since it was a sure bet.

I bought another bottle this year at Sephora and I was disappointed. The smell was still the same minus it wasnt as cloying. The longevity and projection took a hit though. I havent heard of a reformulation but it sure seems like one has happened. I would spend more money on an older bottle. I won't be buying anymore current bottles. Maybe the idea of reformulation is in my head but it sure seems real.

israuseli

I had it when I was 15, few years ago.
Wanted to buy it again, so I have tried it again last month.

The opening is so good. I tested it on a paper and it smelled amazing, so i have tried it on my skin.

On my skin, what a shame, it is really bad
After a few minutes, it becomes annoying, too sweet, and smells really cheap. Reminds a bit of Guess Seductive.

projection is awful, longevity is moderate
I do reccomend to try it. it just do not match my skin

For guys in college and high school, if it is works well on your skin, this is the weapon brothers

jdawg

I underestimated this perfume. My brother has this and was very curious as to how it would smell like on me. Smells great and lasts very long. Not too offensive on the smell.

slowpoke

I had a sample of this, so I wore some times and I thought: "OMG that's amazing. This citric opening that reminds me Allure Homme, and this ambery base, sweet and powdery, and lasts so long.I love this juice. It'll be my signature scent." Then I bought the full bottle... What a disappointment... What happend? So much difference. The openning is completely different, awful, almost unbearable, and it was lingering... The base, not so much powerful anymore... I mean... It looked like a different fragrance to me, and no, it's not a fake. So why? Why this drastic difference? Was it the batch? Has it been reformulated? Because... It's a HUGE diference. The sample, amazing. The full bottle, awful, and it's not a fake, for sure. I think (not sure) that the sample focused on Mandarin Orange, as the full bottle had more Amalfi Lemon. Is that correct? Can someone explain?

kaysee

sexy sweet and masculine. wish it lasted longer

This is my favorite fragance for Spring/summer.
I love it and women too

Coffee King

I really like this, very warm amber. Superb sillage and longevity. Projects so well. Bottle is love or hate, for me its a bit tacky. Its the fragrance that counts, and that is great.

Aakash

Masterpiece...for indian climate...great projection n longevity..Here in India..Issey Miyake Pour Homme n Diesel only the brave...great feeling having these two masterpieces..

tarookz

Do you guys see any resemblance between OTB and Armani Mania? I have both of them and I can see some similarities. Even when I checked the main notes, I saw many things in common.

class

This is a metro sexy scent that girls go for. But it is just too well known now, where a lot of guys are wearing it. So even though I like it, I can't see myself buying it, only because I don't want to seem like just another one of the sexy smelling guys that girls want to get to know physically- if you know what I mean. I like to lead and not be a copy-cat. So I'll give this a 7 or 7.5 out of a 10, just because it has become too common today and it is being worn by too many guys.

My #1 Favorite... Absolutely the Best..!!

What a way to break in with Fragrantica.com - a review of my favorite fragrance.. For those of you following my reviews on other sites, you know I have accumulated quite the collection - now exceeding 400+ bottles - no worries, I will update the shelves on my profile with time. Only the Brave is at the top of the list.

Out of the bottle, OTB opens as a clean citrus(y) fragrance that settles into a fresh showered scent with unique basenotes - somewhere between wood(sy), leather, and a fruit finish. Great fragrance. The "Wow Factor" (compliments by the opposite sex) is in a class of just a few... Every time I have worn this fragrance, I have received at least one (often several) compliment from the opposite sex. Ok - I admit that I am a little high maintenance and like to be noticed (in a good way). Projection and/or Sillage are great, leaving a "wake" of clean and fresh scent that follows my entrance into a room. The only (small) deductions from perfection would be staying power (a.k.a. longevity) - while lasting 6 to 8 hours is solid (and I am very critical), there are fragrances that last longer. Still, given the minor deductions in longevity, Only the Brave is still #1 - it is that good and unique...

Only the Brave offers great flexibility or versatility. I feel comfortable wearing Only the Brave anytime of year and to/for any event, day or night. The bottle is truly a classic design and the packaging is first class. Regarding the value, Only the Brave can be found on-line for a reasonable price. That said, it warrants a chance. I don't think you will regret the purchase. My final evaluation for Only the Brave is 4.9 stars out of 5. I highly recommend adding this fragrance to your collection.

The Daily I.M. (Inspirational Moment) - Life is short - be a part of it...

Bogarde

Citrusy opening, that fades into a violet, cedar and leathery smell (the best part of "only the brave") and then it dries down into a sweet smell of leather and amber. Unremarkable scent but smells good to be honest.

Overall: 7/10 try it and judge for yourself

sil.sirbu

I enjoy very much wearing Only the Brave by Diesel when it's hot outside. Very fresh fragrance with a note of sweetness.

DopeChef

Growing up I used mostly my dads choices in fragrances i'e Hermes, Ralph Lauren safari and Dior Intense.

So I thought it was time to start getting my own collection firstly I needed something to use for everyday. Choosing at random only the brave in the fragrance store as I sprayed it on I got a strong smell of amber that goes straight to the nostrils, zesty splash!. I would say only the brave would be targeted at a younger group of people such as myself, 25 and Under. It has a exciting smell but you could almost say it smells slightly cheap. I would also add that this perfume is a bit watered down.

Spraying this around 3 times the silage is not to bad once the spray has gone down to its base notes around 10-15 minutes in, that's when it comes down to a more breezy and out door type of smell.

All in all get this perfume if you're looking for something to use for everyday as I am a sporty teen I tend to keep this in my gym bag.

My friends boyfriend has this one
It starts off very sharp and tangy
It dries down to a somewhat feminine cologne smell
Its smooth and sharp at the same time
It kinda has this "something burns the nose but in a good way" vibe going on with it
Also leather in cologne has become one of my favourite notes

Good scent, lasts long. Perfect for clubbing.

I am no scent expert, just a normal guy who likes to smell good. I've always worn colognes but mostly cheap stuff. I got Diesel Only the Brave as a gift and it has fueled an intense obsession for colognes now. That being said, onto my review...

I really enjoy the smell of this cologne. It doesn't project much and the sillage is ok (I love colognes that project well and leave a good trail). But it lasts about 6 hours. I think it's more of a "going out" scent. 3 sprays should be more than enough. I have dry skin, so I apply lotion before putting this on. It's a good cologne for anyone in my opinion and can be worn year around, but mostly suited for summer and spring.

Anyways, at $60 it's a good buy. :)

:::::UPDATE:::::

I had this on today. It actually lasts about 8-10 hours which was more than I had noticed previously. So yeah, scratch what I said about 6 hours, this stuff is tough and lasts all day. :)

Francodiaz

It start with citrus and then a sweet violet scent.

I thinks is too young, too inmature. Girls like it cause is almost a girl fragance.

Asad K

This is a fresh and strong fragrance ! I got it as a gift and i was surprise that how can a jeans company make such a good fragrance. ! Good for dates , dinner or any occasion !
8/10 :D

Layzie

Only The Brave has a tobacco and cinnamon opening that might also involve amber. It is warm and sweet. Soon, wood emerges in a supportive role. The leather is subdued. This smooth and creamy perfume doesn't blow me away, but it is very likable. While it lasts, it does have good sillage. Unfortunately, you may not get more than 3 hours out of it.

Only the brave by diesel is one on my favorite. It used to be my signature fragrance for about 3 years, i was almost alway wearing it. It smell good, kind of amber/ citrus combo for me, but i would recommend to try it before buying it. It may not be a safe blind buy, the smell is not usual and can be to strong for some and give headach. As you notice, projection is not a probleme here, and i think that this might be a little to much for hot summer day or office, it smell strong. Longevity is excellent, 8-9 solides hours. The bottle look great and is perfect for decoration :) i also have the after shave and i like it very much to! A great product! The only thing with it is that i find it to be a little bit expensive. Here the final score:

Smell: 8/10. I like it and receive compliment with it. Smell strong (amber).
Longevity: 4/5. 8 to 9 hours with it.
Projection: 4/5. People notice it when you wear it. Be careful to not over spray.
Versatility: 4/5. Can be used about anytime, but i would nt recommended it for hot summer day or office, it could be annoying.
Overall: 20/25. A little bit expensive, but it is worth it.

bonacosta30

@ dascagdas imo, it is a little bit strong for summer...mayble for summer night, but i prefere to use it when it is a little bit cold outside...so i use it more in spring and autum, but it is a very good fragrance :)

Something in this reminds me of a note in Flowerbomb....

Doesn't L'Oreal manufacture Flowerbomb ?.

OMG i got a sample of this awesomenes of fragance and it simply blowed me away
