Loving You Big: One family embracing the unexpected Hardcover – September 28, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
Before becoming a mother, Leah Witman Moore would zoom through the day with her to-do list in hand, happily teaching high school students, and returning home to her loving husband, Zachary.
Then their first child, Jordan, was born with an extremely rare syndrome called Cri Du Chat. And when their twin boys, Austin and Oliver, were born four years later, they found themselves surrounded by neurosurgeons and oncologists, once again testing the resolve of their sanity and their marriage.
In Loving You Big, Leah Witman Moore recounts how she learns to balance the joys and sorrows of her life as she navigates between wig-clad dance parties and the painful loss of loved ones. This powerful and poignant memoir teaches readers to celebrate every small victory, savor every chaotic moment, and recognize the profound impact of a kind word.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2021I heard about this new book through a friend, and read it cover to cover within two days. The author captures so much of the human experience so beautifully. The way that she writes about love in all its forms, grief in all its forms, and everything in between- the big moments in life and the mundane trips to the grocery store- are so honest and raw. She is incredibly relatable in so many ways, and by the end of the book you feel personally invested in the author and her beautiful family. There are times I found myself sobbing, both for the experiences she had and how they reminded me of my own, and many other times where I was actually laughing out loud. While Moore writes about her experience as a mother to a child with profound special needs, this is a memoir that all parents can relate to on many levels. This book is so beautifully written, and I hope that she writes another, as I cannot wait to see what she and her family are up to next. I loved this book. Pick this book up, read it, and you will find that you, too, are loving it big!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2021I loved this book and found that I wanted to keep reading more and more: it was too good to put down. This book is wonderful on many levels. Leah is a gifted storyteller whose life has taken quite a few unexpected turns. She gives us a view into how her family moves forward and that view is honest and touching. I learn so much about myself from Leah’s stories and how I deal with those unexpected turns in my own life. On another level, this book is for people who love anyone who does not seem to fit in the world’s view of typical. It opened up my thinking about how we each can make choices to create inclusive environments and personal connections, and how to see beyond disability. I laughed, I cried, I loved reading this. Leah has a beautiful way of telling stories that will touch your heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2022This book defines parenthood, family chaos, and the life of today's families. Added to that Leah shares her families unexpected diagnoses that show you that life isn't always what we plan. A great reminder that we are all human and how we should do better to help each other and ask for help. Her skills in writing shine through with "Loving You Big"! Chapter after chapter she had you laughing and crying with her witty, sometimes sarcastic yet totally honest reveal of her life since children. A great read that I didn't want to put down and now I am sad I finished it so quickly.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2021I loved reading this book. Leah is an amazing story teller. I felt every emotion. This book will do everyone good. The lessons, the peaks and valleys of her story can resonate with everyone. Leah challenges her reader to look at the world differently, to check our own “ableism” biases and to simply love big! - Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021What a ride. The author does such a great job conveying the challenges and joys she and her family experienced adapting to multiple unexpected circumstances and every day events I have always just taken for granted. I am inspired by the author's positivity and determination. Learning more about the medical issues described was an unexpected bonus.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2022I enjoyed reading Loving You Big. Leah is a gifted writer. I couldn’t wait to come home and get back into the book. Her UPS and downs had me with tears and also with smiles.
Having special needs children in the family the book helped in so many ways.
I can’t wait for her next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021I love the way Leah tells stories. A reader feels like they are experiencing the highs and lows along with her and her family.
