2022-23 Year in Review: We Are the Champions

Men's Soccer Beats Emerson to Claim Third Straight NEWMAC Title

Ben Williams scored the only goal of the match in the 63rd minute to help No. 13/15 Babson defeat Emerson, 1-0, in the NEWMAC Tournament final on November 5 at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

The Beavers dominated possession over the first hour of the contest and finally broke through on Williams' 12th goal of the season. Ryan Kim's service from the left wing was headed back across the box by Noah Labelle for Williams, who flicked a header into the open net.

Babson, which downed Wheaton 1-0 in the semifinals two days earlier, won their third consecutive conference championship and first on their home field since 2011. The title also was the 10th for the Green and White since the formation of the NEWMAC prior to the 1998-99 season.

The Beavers played to a 1-1 OT draw with Vassar in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before falling on penalty kicks.

Men's  Basketball Upsets No. 21 WPI to Capture First NEWMAC Tournament Crown Since 2016

Nate Amado scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the first half and Aaron Gao contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help third-seeded Babson knock off top-seeded and 21st-ranked WPI, 59-53, in the NEWMAC Tournament final on February 25 in Worcester, Mass.

The Beavers raced out to a 16-6 lead and led 31-19 with 44 seconds to go in the first half before the Engineers responded with an 18-4 run to take a 37-35 advantage with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game. Gao hit back-to-back three-pointers to help the Green and White regain a six-point edge with less than seven minutes to play and Andrew Kirkpatrick and Tyler Lauder both went 2-of-2 at the free throw line over the final 22 seconds to secure the win.

The victory, which was Babson's 11th in 12 outings going back to mid-January, secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. The Beavers suffered a 72-60 loss to Utica in the opening round.

Men's Lacrosse Edges MIT in OT Thriller in NEWMAC Tournament Final

Topher Bower buried a feed from Bennett Smith following a turnover 65 seconds into overtime to lift Babson to a thrilling 15-14 win over MIT in the NEWMAC Tournament final on May 6 at MacDowell Field.

The one-goal victory was the second over Engineers and third in a row including their semifinal win over Coast Guard in the span of eight days for the Beavers, who claimed their second NEWMAC Tournament crown in three seasons. The Green and White edged MIT 15-14 in the regular season finale on April 29 and beat Coast Guard 15-14 in the conference semifinals on May 4.

Matt Stucchi was selected as the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after finishing with a career-high seven points on two goals and five assists, while Chi Chi Price scored four times, which included the tying marker with 2:32 left in regulation for Babson. The game featured six ties and five lead changes with neither team leading by more than three at any point.
