A member of our family has been diagnosed with Fowler's Syndrome. Fowler's Syndrome is a rare urological condition that mainly affects young women and leads them to being unable to empty their bladder properly - some people can wee a bit on their own but not fully and some cannot wee at all (they are in full retention). There is a problem with their urethral sphincter that prevents them from urinating normally. It is a long-term condition and can be very restrictive to leading a normal life.
There is NO WHERE NEAR ENOUGH RESEARCH into Fowler's Syndrome and the causes remain unknown.
As well as being unable to wee, many people experience a lot of pelvic pain and some do not have any sensation in their bladder. Recurrent infections can also be a complication either because of having to catheter or because of residual urine left behind after emptying the bladder.
There is no cure for this condition and it can bring a lot of stress and extreme pain over a long period of time experiencing many visits to hospital.
Any donations are greatly appreciated!!
