5
Great throwThis is subjective but to me, great throw means the candle scents the entire room and/or adjacent rooms.

Cold throwThe scent and reach of an unlit candle.
7
Top notesThe fragrance notes you smell immediately.
8
Middle/heart notesThe fragrance notes that add complexity to a scent.

TunnelingWhen a candle does not melt evenly and leaves residual wax on the sides.
Candles can tunnel when they aren't lit for long enough or when a wick is too small for the vessel.
Here's how you fix that.
11
Wick dipperA tool that can be used to extinguish a candle, recenter a wick, and fish out wick pieces from the wax. Here's 3 reason to use a wick dipper.
12

16
Beginner scentsThese are common with more affordable candles or in companies that are just starting out. The scents are pretty straightforward and lack complexity. There is nothing wrong with that but I think it is worth noting when reviewing a candle/scent.
17
Bougie scentsTypically found in more expensive candles and established brands. It is harder to grasp what the candle will smell like based on the fragrance notes because it is more complex and nuanced.
18
Beginner vs Bougie scentsI truly believe we go through scent phases and an analogy I have is one comparing my own journey with wine.
When I was a teenager, I hated wine.
As I got older, I was into champagne and dessert wine. Anything sweet to mask the "wine" taste.
Once I got more into wine, I started to appreciate reds and whites.
Now, after going to some wine tastings and learning a bit more about wine, I have distinct preferences and really like natural wines.
My journey with candles has been similar. I started with some Target candles, then got into brands like Illume and Voluspa and now that I have tried a ton of candles, I appreciate a candle with a more complex scent. We are all on different paths and like different things and I hope to review these candles fairly so that you can find what you're looking for.
