Graphics are great. Game play was generally very good. I liked going to different places and trying to make money being a bounty hunter and freighter. Game can be trying at times. Takes wrong route or doesn't respond promptly. Doesn't happen often, but is annoying as it happens at inopportune times. Be careful about who you make mad at you. It will come back to get you. Game is repetetive on several areas. You know every bar there is will seem like the one you left in another system. The ships you fight against seem to have copied each others moves. To make money on freight be prepared to take boring trips to far places.Again and again. Ship was easy to manuever and controls are excellent. Nav system could have been a little better. Storyline is worn out after 3rd time playing. Wish it could have been skipped, so you could just have fun being a good guy or bad guy (or in between). Seems to me that Microsoft could have made several improvements before shippihg it out to retailers. Still a good FPS and i would like to see FeeLancer 2 someday.Read full review
The game is fun and the best thing is that the controls work great with a mouse and keyboard. Also the graphics are good and hold up even by todays standards. The ships and spacestations are kinda blocky but for such an old game its still good. The gameplay gets a little bit repetitive because basically its always go destroy some ships and collect something. I have not fininshed it so it may change up but so far its been pretty much the same type of thing. There are cutscenes that push the story forward and they look just ok. There are alot of mods for the game but most of them are for multiplayer which Im not sure how many ppl still play it. You can upgrade your ship with credits you earn doing missions or buying and selling cargo. Overall I recommend the game because you can get it for a low price and its easy to use interface works great. If you are looking for a space shooter that will play on an older PC this one is well made and enjoyable.Read full review
INTRO: If you are a lover of Space Combat Sims, this is a classic you'll want in your collection. Fortunately, it will run (flawlessly) in Windows 7. One of the great plusses to Freelancer is that there are loads of people still playing it; meaning there are (free) mods available online that expand your experience. There is an active online community that plays over the internet. To access it you will need to grab the Freelancer Discovery mod. I love this game for many reasons. There is a lot of freedom to do what you want: whether it be exploring, combat, mining or trade. There are story based missions through which you advance in levels. But they are somewhat infrequent and you are free to do what you want in between. DRAWBACKS: There are some drawbacks to the game. It was released in 2003; the graphics will disappoint you if you expect the same quality as a game like Mass Effect. Also, Freelancer does not support flight sticks, etc. I play it on my laptop using my keyboard. A lot of people play with their mouse. If you want a game that supports spiffy flight gear, you won't find it in Freelancer. Beyond that. you cannot customize your character in the classic game, Edison Trent. You get to choose the missions you wish to accept in order to earn currency to upgrade your ship and weapons. You cannot play as a woman nor can you choose things like age and race. :( SUMMARY: Even though it is a 10 year old game, I find the controls to be quite good. The graphics show their age, yes, but they are still quite captivating. The story line is sufficient to make me feel invested in the game. The best news is that learning curve is not so steep as to be too frustrating to the casual gamer. You cannot choose the difficulty level when you start the game, however, there are cheats readily available that allow you to dial the difficulty up or down. This game is a steal for the price it's selling for. If you are a space sim lover yet unsure, pick up the demo. Once you try it out you'll want to purchase the full game. I'd highly recommend this wonderful classic to everyone.Read full review
