AMD Radeon RX 6750 GRE is ‘an overclocked RX 6700 non-XT’

The company’s plans for a new RDNA2 desktop SKU resolves around a cut-down Navi 22 GPU.

As previously reported, AMD is preparing to release a new Radeon GPU specifically tailored for gamers on a budget. This card, known as the RX 6750 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition), follows a similar path to the RX 7900 GRE, which was a model primarily targeted at the Chinese market and had limited presence elsewhere, mostly with select system integrators.

According to the report, this new model would utilize the RX 6700 SKU as its foundation but introduce higher clock speeds. These details were shared by Hoang Anh Phu on Twitter/X, who is known for being among the first to share information about AMD’s releases, with a particular focus on Asian hardware launches, including the purported RX 6750 GRE.

Essentially, the RX 6700 GRE would employ a modified Navi 22 GPU with 2304 cores and an unusual 10GB GDDR6 memory configuration connected via a 160-bit bus.

The existence of this model might be attributed to a specific reason, but its origins can be traced back to a less favorable period in the GPU industry, the cryptocurrency mining craze.

The Radeon RX 6700 non-XT was originally launched in June of the previous year, and it didn’t receive much attention during its release. It seemed that AMD had limited plans to introduce this model to the DIY market. In fact, last year’s launch was restricted to a select group of board partners. However, the story behind this model is somewhat more complex.

Initially, the RX 6700 non-XT was known as BC-2235, and it was marketed as a cryptocurrency mining card by a few companies. When the cryptocurrency mining boom ended, AMD and its board partners repurposed these cards for gamers. Consequently, this card has a seemingly conservative power target of 175W, which limits its performance. In contrast, the RX 6700 XT and RX 6750 XT, both utilizing the same GPU but with more cores, have power consumption ratings of up to 230W and 250W, respectively. The RX 6750 GRE appears to be addressing this performance gap with increased power consumption.

Currently, it remains unclear when the RX 6750 GRE will be launched or why it carries the “XX50” designation. If AMD decides to release this model in more markets, it could potentially lead to confusion among gamers due to the mix of Navi 22 GPU configurations. However, given the limited release scope of the original RX 6700 (XL), it is likely that the new GRE SKU will once again be primarily limited to the Chinese DIY market.
