DOHA: Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari has said the recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asking Qatar to put pressure on the Hamas movement to release the hostages are new attempt by him to prolong the war.

In a post on his official social media X account on Monday, DrAl Ansari said the"Israeli Prime Minister's recent statements in which he calls on Qatar to pressure Hamas to release the hostages are nothing but a new attempt by him to delay and prolong the war for reasons that have become clear to everyone".

DrAl Ansari added, "The Israeli Prime Minister knows well that Qatar has been committed from day one to mediation efforts, ending the crisis, and freeing the hostages.

"Evidence of this is represented by the humanitarian truce that freed 109 hostages and proved that negotiation and reaching an agreement is the only solution to return the hostages, end the escalation, and ensure the security of the region."

Qatar also rejects the accusations made byNetanyahu alleging that the country is funding Hamas, DrAl Ansari said.

"We also reject the empty accusations made by the Israeli Prime Minister regarding the Qatari efforts in reconstruction and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza, portraying them as if they were funding the Hamas movement, which, as he knew, was carried out in full coordination with Israel, the United States, Egypt, the United Nations, and all concerned parties."

He added, "We affirm that Qatar is continuing its mediation efforts and not paying attention to the polemics and statements that we can only understand in the context of escaping from the personal political crises of the Israeli Prime Minister. We ask him to focus on the course of negotiations in a way that serves the security of the region and ends the ongoing tragedy of continuing war, instead of issuing such statements whenever that suits his narrow political agenda."
