A fantastic watch, with a few minor annoyances.

A fantastic watch, with a few minor annoyances.
I deliberated on getting an Apple Watch for a long time. I found it unnecessary and I typically hate wearing watches. However, I am working on bettering many aspect is my physical health and decided to get one.I will start by saying that I love this thing. I opted for a series 3 because the price is significantly lower than more recent models. From what I can tell, battery life and screen size are the chief improvements in the new models. The good:The watch is super convenient for accessing the most used features of my phone, without the need to use my phone. I often don’t have pockets and keep my phone in a bag, so the ability to check messages and answer calls from the watch is great.I love that I can “ping” my phone. I misplace it at the house frequently. I only wish that, like the Find My IPhone app, the ping would sound until the phone is unlocked. The watch integrates with my health related apps perfectly. Anything I need to access quickly can be done; whether it be my activity and sleep trackers or my heart rate tracker. It seems to accurately track my steps, as my phone (in pocket) and watch are generally consistent within 100 steps for every thousand. The screen is easy to see. I don’t have great vision, but have no trouble reading anything. The not as good:The watch has a poor speaker output, when talking on the phone. I Understand that the intent is to use the airpod with this and I usually do, but there are times that I don’t wish to and I would like to be able to hear clearly.Photos require an entire album to be synced. I would love to simply be able to store photos of my choosing. This becomes a bit annoying, since the aspect ratio of the Apple Watch screen is 5:4, versus most photos being 2:3 or 3:4. In order to ensure they view properly, you must crop them in the phone. As a professional photographer, this is annoying to me.The battery life isn’t quite as good as I hoped. I presumed that I would get close to two full days from each charge. I get a little bit more than one day. I am not a heavy user, as much of what I do requires my phone. I get even less when using the AirPods. The music app should be able to play from the watch speakers. AirPods obviously will sound better, but sometimes, I just want to hear my music quietly while working and don’t care so much for quality. I don’t want to have to have my phone following me or put pods in every time.Lastly, the location sharing app, which shares the same icon as Find My IPhone is not super useful. There is no way that I can see that I can use this to find other devices of mine (MBP, my other iPhone, my iPad). From my phone, I can ping all of these devices. It should be easy to equip the Watch with the same capability to do so.In short, I still love this. The issues are minor and nowhere near enough to deter me, but these are things that should be addressed in updated models or the OS, if they have not been addressed already.

Works reliably to make and answer calls. No need to run to your phone when it rings. The health app is awesome, I check the three rings to see if I am meeting my goals for standing, exercise and calories burnt. The heart rate feature is useful also. You can store music on the watch, but to play it back you need to use any bluetooth device. (Although the Watch has a speaker, it is used only for phone calls) Apple Watches are a little bit thick, but comfortable to wear. The battery life is great! You can go for a couple of days or more between charges, but I store mine on a charge stand every night. I had got out of the habit of wearing watches, and I had my doubts about this watch. However, I have found the Apple Watch to be quite useful and enjoyable life accessory.

I have not had a smart watch so buying the Series 3 was a great affordable option. I first ordered the 38mm bc the price was great and I figured it was OK because I was primarily using the watch to track work out progress. Boy was I wrong! I use it for EVERYTHING. I don't have cellular on the watch so I have to have my phone, but I text on it and pretty anything I can do on it, I do! Once I started doing everything on it , I realized this was going to become a part of my daily life and when it was time to upgrade, I would definitely get the larger size. Well, i just had surgery and lost my watch at the hospital. Was able to track that it went to the laundry facility the hospital uses and it went dead and was never turned in. Since I had to replace it I figured that I would get the bigger one and I AM SO HAPPY!

I bought this watch as a replacement for my 5 years old garmin Vivoactive. Overall, I am happy with the upgrade, but not everything is better. Here's my pro/cons list:

      Pros:
      * Tight integration with iPhone. I love getting alerts, email, messages, etc. in a way that I can interact with them. On the Garmin, I would get the notifications but I could not read them (the font was too small) and the interaction was much worse.
      * I love being able to answer a call from the watch, this is an amazing feature and works very well.
      * I like how it looks. I bought a metal band and it looks great.
      * I like having a heart rate monitor, my Garmin was an older model and did not have this functionality

      Cons:
      * I hate having to charge it every night. My Garmin lasted a full week and the Samsung lasts about 3-4 days
      * It's a lot heavier than the Garmin
      * I am extremely disappointed that Apple has chosen to keep the watch faces locked. On the Garmin, there were tons of cool watch faces to choose from, and the Samsung has some that are way cooler than anything the Apple watch has

Overall I like the Apple Watch and I'm happy with it. I was able to get it for about $200, which is a pretty darn good deal. I don't think I would even consider paying the amount Apple wants for the new one.

Been wearing it all the time since I’ve own it for about 2 months. I did get a skin irritation initially which lasted for about 2 weeks, and later went away. The battery life last for about 12-14 hours with moderate use. I’m happy with my purchase. I’ve also used it to find my phone many time, read messages when I driving. The news bulletins are also quite useful, the Alarm I use on a weekly bases, it has a vibrating option that wakes me no problem. It durability is good also. I haven’t broken it’s face yet, but I do have to be more conscious about that since it’s not a rugged sports watch. I may buy a cover for it for extra ruggedness down the line.
