A local legend tells the story that Rio Celeste has its unique color after God was done painting the sky he washed his brushes in the river. However scientists say that the rivers mineral content from the nearby volcanos are suspended in the river an reflect the sunlight creating the vivid blue color. This day tour out introduces guests to this beautiful enchanting river and surrounding rainforest. We start the hike through this Humid Forest ecosystem, with the chance to observe various animal species and exuberant flora surrounding us, as the trail winds along the rivers banks. Along the walk, we will discover the magnificent Rio Celeste waterfall, and also the place where the river dyes itself into that amazing light blue coloration. Enjoy an easy, serene hike with your naturalist guide and experience the dense foliage inside the lush rainforest at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Inside the park, your guide will help you spot wildlife and explain the history of the volcano. You might encounter monkeys, toucans, coatimundi, or some of the large variety of bird species native to the area.
After the volcano, the next place is La Fortuna Waterfall, renowned for its 70-meter (230-foot)high falls and its crystal clear waters. Along the trail, you will observe plants, trees, and animals, which inhabit the area like sloths, toucans, orioles, butterflies, and more. You can choose to swim in its refreshing waters, take amazing photographs, or simply relax and take in all of the beauty of the La Fortuna Waterfall.

A family trip is one of the best experiences as it keeps the whole family together and fills it with thousands of moments to remember. You have chosen to travel to La Fortuna, San Carlos, a beautiful place with many options, from adventure, hiking, and peasant tours, among others. Our guide will pick you up at your hotel, we will make a short trip to reach the Territory of Sloths, this beautiful privileged land is approximately 5 minutes from the town of La Fortuna. There We can observe one of the most beloved animals of our country, the popular sloth, which captivates us always with its tenderness and peculiar behavior. We travel approximately 1,500 meters of footpath, while our guide gives us a great amount of information and explains the importance of protecting this species. Our specialized guides are experts in finding the sloths, so we can guarantee their observation. We must remember that the sloths are lonely animals and that most of their time is spent sleeping and resting on the treetops.
We will end this part of the tour with some delicious seasonal fruits as a snack to continue our trip to a town called Agua Azul de La Fortuna, where in approximately 15 minutes we will be arriving at an agroecological farm, owned by a local peasant family that always receive us with their open arms.
There we will start the tour with a delicious natural juice as a welcome drink made based on fresh fruits from the area our guide will detail the main objectives of this family project, among which are the promotion of the sustainable use of natural resources and the preservation of Costa Rican customs. After this warm welcome, we will carry out the manual milking of cows where any person can participate in this unforgettable pleasant experience. The youngest can participate in the milking and also feed small calves, and chickens, and observe rabbits, geese, and quail, among other animal species that exist in a small farm.
Then we will participate in the process of extraction of sugar cane juice, being able to taste the fresh juice completely pure and also in combination with different ingredients such as liquor, mint, and some other organic products obtained in the same farm. Then, we will go on to make a tasting of artisan liquor and other traditional products obtained through the fermentation process while we observe the distillation process of artisanal liquor in the traditional Costa Rican way.
We will visit a small archaeological ranch where we can observe different indigenous pieces found in the same lands as the farm and at the same time use them in the creation of artisanal cacao with the chance to taste from the fruit to the chocolate itself.
Finally, we can appreciate the garden with a variety of beautiful orchids that adorn the patio of the house, as well as "the pharmacy", an orchard with interesting medicinal plants, which are still used by this family in the treatment of diseases, just as grandmothers did in the past. At the end of the tour, we will enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch made with products made on the farm such as coffee, cheese, and tortillas, among others. This tour is ideal for all those who want to discover the nocturnal wonders of Costa Rica. We will begin with a 30-minute drive to the town of La Tigra, where we will meet the Mendez Family. This Traditional Costa Rican family lives off the land and dedicates part of their property for the natural regeneration of plants and animals.
On the property, we will take a 600-meter trail alongside a small patch of regenerating forest with water mirrors that facilitate the observation of nightlife such as birds and nocturnal mammals,insects, amphibians, bats, and more.
We will walk around the water mirrors until we reach the frog sanctuary, where natural regeneration and reproduction of these species occurs. The sanctuary receives its name due to the large number of frogs that can be observed, like the hammer frog and the bullfrog which are the largest and smallest species in Costa Rica, in addition to the beautiful red-eyed tree frog, and the spectacular little glass frog. After the tour isover, a delicious traditional Costa Rican dinner prepared over a wood-burning stove awaits and it will be accented with the nocturnal lights of the SanCarlos plains. After dinner, we will take the transportation back to La Fortuna.

Hotel San Bada located on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast is the closest hotel to the world-famous Manuel Antonio National Park, and just 8 miles from the regional airport, where direct flights from San Jose reach Manuel Antonio in only 25 minutes. If you prefer to drive, it is less than 3 hours on the new highway that winds through colorful villages set in the mountainsides and across the Tarcoles River home to massive crocodiles – a favorite photo stop. Best of all it is only a two-minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Nearby Quepos marina is a sports fishing mecca for anglers looking to hook a marlin or sailfish. With only 67 rooms San Bada offers a wonderful location that permits you to be close to the gorgeous Pacific beaches of Manuel Antonio and observe the surrounding mountains covered with tropical foliage. The Manuel Antonio National Park limits daily visitors to 600 on weekdays and 800 on weekends and is closed on Mondays and national holidays.
