5 fast on creativity #3 Gabriella Jangfeldt

1.) What is creativity to you?

To exist in a flow. A kind of spirituality... You are in a state of total focus and free in your energy and thought.

2.) How do you measure creativity?

When talking about measurements, you usually have a desire to see results in the near future. With creativity that is not always possible. Some creations are not ready for the world when they come, they are ahead of their time. Whereas others may seem dull and predictable but stay strong for decades. On the other hand, you can measure your own creativity by reflecting on your feelings. How satisfied am I with the solution? Did I challenge myself? Have I created something beyond my expectations?

3.) What inspires you?

What stands out. What / who dare to stand out from the crowd. Could be anything from an interesting and innovative design solution to strange colors and shapes appearing in nature.

What stands out. What / who dare to stand out from the crowd!

4.) What creative work are you extra proud of?

An art project I did in 2014 as a protest against the anti-gay law that had just passed in Russia. The law meant that children should be protected from exposure to homosexuality with the argument that it contradicts traditional family values. All of a sudden, the pride festival was banned and LGBTQ couples could no longer show their love in public without risking imprisonment. LGBTQ magazines also had to go underground or close down. So I created a Russian LGBTQ magazine and used the propaganda style from the time of the Revolution against them. I let two visual expressions collide and I'm still very proud of the result. The magazine was apostrophized by Ung Svensk form https://www.jangfeldt.se/?portfolio_page=sch-a-russian-lgbt-magazine

5.) How has COVID affected your creativity?

Because you are more at home, my creativity has mainly developed in my garden. Being outdoors a lot, hanging out at some florists and planning for a new flowerbed has been such a nice contrast to all the depressing news. Growing and harvesting has become my new source of creativity!
