ChatGPT, a machine learning model, is an ingenious tool assisting people across diverse fields, though it can also be employed maliciously. Aspects that raise concerns include usage for misinformation spreading, malware scripting, personal information theft, and facilitating academic dishonesty. Additionally, it holds the potential to compromise privacy, due to its data collection for platform maintenance and training. Therefore, enhanced AI alignment principles are requisite for ensuring safety in future AI models.

Continue readinghttps://lnkd.in/gray3sUc

🚨 A Modern Enigma: The Vulnerability of Encrypted AI Chats Unveiled! 🚨 Imagine, during WWII, the Allies cracked the Enigma machine by knowing just three words. Fast forward to today, a similar vulnerability exists, not in war communications, but in our private AI chats with services like ChatGPT. By simply analyzing the length of encrypted words, AI models can predict your conversations' content. Yes, this attack has been implemented in an AI model, making it incredibly easy to replicate and improve. More importantly, the most vulnerable are closed-source models, given you send your data. I strongly advocate for not cutting corners when it comes to your AI strategy. Ensure you securely own your intelligence, and the IP that is crucial to your company’s success. In my opinion, traditional SaaS may not be the way to go for new AI products. This is why, in response to the growing concern for data privacy and the need for secure AI interactions, we built Deducta. Unlike traditional AI platforms, Deducta is a pioneering framework designed for the creation and training of specialized AI agents, who then collaborate to automate complex tasks. It operates directly on your premises or in your own cloud, ensuring that your data, intellectual property, and solutions to your problems stay within your company. If anything resonated, reach out! 🔐 Exploiting Token-Length Side Channels to Decrypt AI Assistant Responses🕵️ Researchers have discovered a side channel that leaks the length of individual tokens (words or phrases) transmitted during AI-assistant conversations, even when the traffic is encrypted. This seemingly innocuous information can be exploited to reconstruct entire responses with surprising accuracy, potentially exposing sensitive details from users' chat sessions. Except for Google's Gemini, many major AI assistants, including those from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic, were found to be vulnerable to this attack. OpenAI and others have applied fixes to address the vulnerability, but anyone that's building their own LLM-powered systems needs to be aware of the risks that this research highlights. The proposed mitigations, such as sending tokens in larger batches or padding packets with random data, while addressing the vulnerability, will potentially impact user experience. Finding the right balance between privacy and usability is going to be a significant challenge for service providers. As LLM-based systems are becoming ubiquitous, three focus areas are increasingly seizing the spotlight: Security, Optimization, and Orchestration. Let’s see what we are covering in this edition of Crossroads: - Security - Can you trick ChatGPT to reveal sensitive information?: 'Prompt Injection' is an intriguing yet unnerving prospect of LLMs, where cyber attackers manipulate LLMs for misuse, such as stealing sensitive information. We will talk about the 'Gandalf' challenge by Lakera, testing this exact threat scenario, with levels of success varying from 54% to 1.5% as the complexity escalates. - Optimization - How smaller LLMs outperform the bigger ones?: As organizations turn towards smaller, in-house models for self-reliance and cost-effectiveness, I would like spotlight 'Distilling step-by-step' method developed by researchers from the University of Washington and Google. This approach enables these smaller models to outperform LLMs with considerably fewer parameters and training examples. - Orchestration - Stitching things together: Finally, I’d like to talk about the framework and tooling for developing LLM-based applications and orchestrating multiple models simultaneously. We will briefly have a look at LangChain and HuggingFace's Transformers Agents which are simplifying these challenges and driving the future of LLM orchestration. #chatgpt #largelanguagemodels #productdevelopment #ai #security #optimization #orchestration #development https://lnkd.in/eRYYi-RG
