This document is to provide all BTSR's employees with rules and guidance about the appropriate use of company equipment, network and internet access. It applies to all employees who have access to computers and the internet to be used in the performance of their work. Company employees are expected to use the internet responsibly and productively. Do not click on random links. To avoid viruses spreading via email or instant messaging (IM), think before you click. If you receive a message with nothing other than a link and/or general text, delete it immediately.
Email attachments can carry material that could threaten our network (viruses etc an attachment you were not expecting and if you do not know the sender, delete the message immediately. Take care to only emails with attachments from a trust source. When opening attachments, first save it to your computer and scan it with your antivirus software.
Do not download or install unfamiliar software or electronic files from the internet without implementing virus protection measures that have been approved by the company. KaZaA, Benzi, Gator, HotBar, WhenUSave, CommentCursor, WebHancer, Limewire and other Gnutella programs all appear to have useful and legitimate functions. However, most of this software is (or contains) spyware, which will damage your operating system installation, waste resources, generate pop-up ads and report your personal information back to the company that provides the software.
Do not connect any personal external drives, laptops, or thumb drives to the company network.If you need to access your personal equipment do so using the free hotel Wi-Fi - not the network. Never use the internet, email, or instant messaging for gambling or illegal activities. Never bypass the system's security mechanisms.
Never send, receive, solicit, store, or forward any material that contains obscene, defamatory, hateful, or otherwise objectionable materials or which is intended to harass or intimidate another person. If an employee is unsure about what constitutes acceptable internet usage, then he/she should ask his/her supervisor/manager for further guidance. Violation of this policy could result in disciplinary and/or legal action leading up to and including termination of employment. All employees are required to acknowledge receipt and confirm that they have understood and agree to abide by the rules detailed in this document.
