Help Sherie’s Children Pay for Death Expenses

Donation protected
Hi friends,
Our mother Sherie Morin died on December 30 from stage 4 liver cirrhosis. The grief is big. We not only lost a mother but lost our sense of home, safety, comfort. Suddenly we are the adults in charge of all that happens after someone dies, while grieving more than we ever have.

Our momma leaves behind three kids, two dogs, and a cat. Because our parents left their families to move toCalifornia from Canada before we were born, these responsibilities have been left upon us.
Our final ask from the community is to help our little family pay for the expenses that have fallen upon us. This includes her cremation, rent for her home while we pack up, organize, and donate her things over the next couple weeks, and the memorial expenses. We are being as frugal as we can with the memorial while still giving my momma the proper service she deserves. Also! If you have skills and can help we are looking for help with packing and organizing and for someone to help us live stream the memorial (on zoom or youtube) for people out of town. Please reach out if you can offer help.

We have pooled together as much money as we can collectively but simply can’t carry the costs. Derek just graduated college and has been in Ojai since then to spend time with mom before she died. Jacqueline has taken off work since the beginning of November to be her caretaker. Danielle has supported our mother over the last 6 months and has also taken off time from work to be with our mom during her final days and go through the house.

This is one of the hardest moments of our lives and we are so appreciative of everything that this community has already helped us for. Please donate what you can if you can. We know there is so much struggle and heartbreak around the world right now and are holding all of you in our collective prayers. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

If you have venmo, it is preferred.

Hi there,
We are reaching out today with a heavy heart and a sincere plea for your support. Our mother, Sherie (Sher) Morin, is facing an incredibly challenging battle against stage 4 liver cirrhosis. As we don't have a lot of family, we are asking for your support.

Over the course of this summer our mom has been trying to get a proper diagnosis on her health. She was bounced from doctor to doctor and wasn’t getting the proper care she needed. Her symptoms were extreme abdominal pain, losing weight, and her abdomen filling up with fluid to the point of looking nine months pregnant. At the time of all these tests her gynecologist found cancerous cells in her cervix and her gastroenterologist diagnosed her with ascites which is the buildup of fluid in the abdomen.

September 2023

During this time, Sher had a hard time keeping food down and ended up going from her average weight of 135 pounds to 90 pounds. Her skin lost its elasticity and began bruising all over due to anemia. It was terrifying to witness this rapid decline of our vivacious mother into a sickly version of herself who kept being rushed to the emergency room for a couple nights at a time.

Two weeks ago, she was rushed from the Ojai Hospital to Ventura County Medical Center with a collapsed lung to receive treatment that the emergency room in Ojai could not give her. As she was being transferred in the ambulance she called each one of us, her children to say her goodbyes as her prognosis was dire in that moment. Luckily, ventura hospital was able to save her after 5 days in the emergency room. They drained over 30 pounds of fluid from her body over multiple days as her lungs kept filling up each night.

This is when she was finally diagnosed with stage 4 liver cirrhosis. With this diagnosis, her only way of survival is to get a liver transplant.

Her immediate treatment is twice weekly paracentesis procedures to drain excess fluid from her abdomen and lungs. The next step is a surgery for her to get TIPS (Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) which is a procedure to create new connections between two blood vessels in your liver.

These will both hopefully help her survive while her doctors and her children help her to get on the liver transplant list.

Throughout her life, our mother has been a pillar of strength, always supporting her community and putting others before herself. Now, it’s our turn to rally around her and ensure she gets the care she desperately needs.

Sher has such a big loving heart by nature and has always given so much of herself to other people. She's worked as a caregiver, massage therapist, and healing people with Watsu. Her specialty is working on people with physical disabilities and pregnant mamas.

Most recently our mom has been a caregiver for the elderly in Ojai. Sher was always there for their every need and did it all up until their last breath. She more than cared for them, she loved them. Over the past couple of years, she worked for Guy Webster, Michael Taggart, Hugh Thatcher, and multiple other friends and patients with serious health challenges.

We are aiming to raise expenses to cover immediate expenses such as past due bills, restarting her cell phone plan, purchasing essential food for her and her pets, paying rent, and covering medical co-pays. Your generosity will provide her with the financial relief she urgently requires during this critical time.

She has health insurance, but many parts of the treatment plan are not covered. This fundraiser was created to help ensure that Sher can get the treatment and support she needs in time to win this battle and survive.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. It will help my mother regain her health, continue her journey towards a liver transplant, and heal the underlying trauma that has contributed to her health issues.

Please consider contributing to this GoFundMe campaign and sharing it with your friends and family. Together, we can make a profound impact on my mother’s life and support her as she takes steps towards recovery and a brighter future.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, compassion, and generosity. Your support means the world to us, and we are eternally grateful.

Please, help us save our momma. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
