What is KIRKOR doing to address climate change? We as architects have an important role to play in combatting climate change through targeted and meaningful interventions. KIRKOR's Sustainability R&D Department has taken us deep into the world of Embodied Carbon and revealed information gaps that have yet to be discussed and addressed in detail. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be sharing what we've found as a result of this initiative to build awareness through advocacy and education. Why are we making the Blue Marble project? Because #sustainability is the ultimate challenge for humanity. As a global community, we are facing a critical sustainability challenge that requires urgent and unwavering attention. The warnings of scientists cannot be ignored any longer, and the consequences of inaction are too dire to contemplate. We must recognize that the erosion of trust in our institutions and leaders is a significant obstacle to progress. The younger generations are feeling disillusioned and let down by the media, governments, and corporations, and this has led to a loss of faith in our collective ability to effect change. It is imperative that we adopt a new approach that places the needs of the planet and its inhabitants at the forefront, ahead of short-term profits and personal gain. Can you imagine digging an actual well will bamboo sticks and some local contraption? More like being a Davis and shirtliff without the fancy machines. When I saw this video I was floored! like how is that even possible, and then I remembered this is perfect embodiment of using locally available materials to solve local problems and must highly be encouraged. This is use of indigenous knowledge to promote growth and prosperity. It is using physics without mentioning physics in itself. It is a pulley system without the pullies themselves. Indigenous peopke and knowledge have been known to offer timely and sustainable solutions to matters climate change mitigation and adaptation. For example in this picture there is less noise, air, and soil pollution yet the results are similar plus the added advantage of the men actually working thus engaging in physical activities. When we go to such communities, our job is not to take them from their way of life, but rather to support and strengthen such approaches. We must champion approaches that locally led and implemented as they are sustainable! I wanted to crop the video, but if I did, I would be taking away from them. You must see exactly how they did it!
