Everyone Can Write: Finding and Making Writing Communities

Join us for a fun week-long exploration of writing! This new summer camp opportunity is a collaboration between the University of Utah’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric Studies and Salt Lake Community College’s Community Writing Center. It is designed for high school students who are considering going to college and want to explore writing as a possible major or minor. Students will spend time on the University of Utah campus and at the Community Writing Center, which is located in the Downtown Library Plaza.

Throughout the week, students will engage in a range of different writing activities: some professional, some creative, and all geared toward making positive social change. Workshops will focus on resumes and scholarship essays, memoirs and crafting fictional characters, journaling for mental health, and writing for social justice.

By the end of the week, each participant will have not only practiced different styles of writing but will have crafted a contribution to the annual Salt Lake Young Writers anthology, which will be published in September 2024.

Camp will run Monday-Thursday, July 15-18th, 2024.
