Join us for the inaugural Cynthia Moodie Bess Award 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament hosted by us, The Riley Divorce & Family Law Firm. Taking place in Kawartha Lakes from May 25th to May 26th, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this event aims to support the Cynthia Moodie Bess Initiative by raising funds for education initiatives.
The Cynthia Moodie Bess Award is a not-for-profit corporation named after its founder, Cynthia Moodie Bess.
An immigrant from Trench Town, Jamaica, Ms. Bess raised three children in Canada. She constantly stressed the importance of education to her children and those around her. She is famous for reciting an old Jamaican poem: “Labour for learning before you grow old. For learning is better than silver or gold. Silver or gold will vanish away. But a good education shall never decay.”
The not-for-profit corporation provides scholarships for the youth who have been accepted into their first year of college or university.
Education has the power to transform lives, particularly for children facing disadvantaged circumstances. We invite you to become a sponsor of this tournament and contribute to this worthy cause.

This two-day, 3-on-3 tournament will take place at the end of May at the BGC Kawartha Lakes in Lindsay. The age groups for this event include U12, U13, U14, and U15/16. Both indoor and outdoor courts will be used.
The cost per team is $60. By registering your team for this event, you participate in a noble cause and align your group with positive community impact. Your involvement in the basketball tournament directly contributes to life-changing opportunities for the youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. There are various volunteer opportunities. Choose from roles such as basketball referee, set-up/clean-up volunteer, equipment assistant, timekeeper/scorekeeper, greeter, or general assistance (parking/food/water).
