What is Hazardous Waste?

  • Products containing toxic chemicals like cleaning products, solvents, pesticides, oil-based paints, and weed killers.
  • Batteries,  Light bulbs, fire extinguishers & smoke alarms.
  • Expired Medication  -  Oakland County, Operation Medicine Cabinet

Why shouldn't Hazardous Waste be disposed of with your trash or flushed down the toilet or sink?
  • These products can be a threat to living beings
  • These products can pollute the air, water, and soil
  • Proper disposal requires an operating license for the treatment, storage, and disposal of HHW.
How to Identify Hazardous Waste?
  • Look for keywords on containers such as "Danger", "Caution", "Poison", "Flammable", "Corrosive" or "Use in Well Ventilated Area".
Why is document shredding so important?
  • Helps homeowners prevent identity theft, rid clutter, and fire hazards, as well as protect the environment.
  • Shredding unnecessary papers and documents helps to reduce the number of trees needed for the paper.
  • Shredded paper is recycled to make more paper.
If I am unable to make one of the annual events, or I have items that are not acceptable,  what are my options?
