Check out free passes at La Vergne library

Members of the La Vergne Public Library can check out free passes to the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center and The Discovery Center in Murfreesboro starting April 1, according to a news release from the City of La Vergne.

The free passes can be checked out only for one week at a time, are valid for two adults and up to four children and must be returned to the library similar to a checked-out book. The library has two sets of passes for each Center, and families can check out a pass once each quarter, La Vergne Public Library Director Donna Bebout said.

Parents must be members of the La Vergne Public Library to check out the passes. Library membership cards are free.

“We’ve never had anything like this before,” Bebout said in the news release. “This gives our patrons the opportunity to visit these places to go, explore, and learn.”

According to the news release, Ginger Levinson, who graduated last December with a Master of Arts in biology from Miami University in Ohio, was instrumental in bringing the resources to the library.

Levinson is a graduate of La Vergne High School and has volunteered at the library.

“Due to cost, many families in our community often miss out on the opportunity to visit informal science learning centers and STEM attractions,” Levinson said in the news release. “These passes bridge the gap in access to attractions like these and gives kids a chance to learn in settings outside of the classroom.”
