I was first introduced to this carrot-based habanero pepper sauce while visiting our son, who was in Air Force flight training in Del Rio, Texas. Although the sauce was made in Belize and was under a different label at that time, it not only had the desired heat, but it had true flavor. The brand at that time advertised three versions of heat, labeled as X, XX, and XXX, with triple X being the hottest. My wife and I bought several bottles of each heat level at a grocery store in Del Rio, and quickly discovered that XX was the best heat level, with XXX so hot that the taste disappeared. Unfortunately, when we ran out after a few months, we discovered that this sauce brand was not available at our local grocery; thus, I ordered a case via the internet. Later, I discovered that the brand, although the same name, was not the same product. Having thought I had found the perfect pepper sauce, I was very disappointed when the case arrived with a much darker color in the sauce, accompanied by a totally different taste. I read the fine print on the label only to discover that this sauce, again bearing the same name brand name as found in Del Rio, was made in Colombia and not in Belize. I frugally did my best to develop a taste for the new case of sauce, but I just could not. Then one day at the local grocery store I saw bottles of Marie Sharp's habanero pepper sauce, which was the same orange color as the brand discovered in Del Rio. I picked up a bottle and read the label and saw that it came from Belize, and it came it hot and "Beware" heat levels. I took a chance and bought a bottle of both, and found that the carrot-based habanero taste was what I remembered from my first tasting in Del Rio. And, I found that both the hot and "Beware" were to my liking, although the latter was the equivalent to my favorite--the old XX of the original brand. I was elated and bought the "Beware" until our local grocery quit selling the Marie Sharp label. So, once again I went to the internet, and for now I am again happy. Good heat, but not scorching, and good taste. Based on experience, and I cannot say for how long, I am content tonight. Only a hot sauce aficionado would understand.

Anyone who likes hot sauce would love this. The habanero flavor really comes through. It's a bit spicy but I tend to like that. So if you like something that's hot but not too hot, give this a try.

I have tried all of Marie Sharps hot sauces (I bought a sampler pack, and have also bought some other full size bottles). The beware is the best. It has the most flavor compared to the red pepper sauces. It's plenty hot - just use more the hotter you want it. I like this much better than Marie Sharp's Red Hornet sauce. The red hornet sauce is hotter (so I can use less of it to get the same heat effect), but it gives me stomach cramps almost immediately. The Beware does not. That said, I go through a bottle quickly because I like things quite hot, so I use it in quantities that others might use ketchup. Still, it is the best and most flavorful actually-hot hot sauce out there. Really fantastic on so many foods, but I especially love it on Fajitas or with black beans or eggs and potatoes.
