Description
History education has consistently been a hotly debated topic in the Czech Republic in recent decades. There are several reasons for its prominent place in the public arena: from sensitivity towards indoctrination rooted in the experience with history education serving direct purposes of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s to the fact that history education is perceived as perhaps the most direct contributor to shaping or constructing of (national) identity. The workshop-style session aims to uncover the general tendency of the state socialist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia and look at the key dilemmas following the democratic revolution in 1989 up until now.
The participants are expected to actively contribute since part of the session is devoted to hands-on experience with inquiry using Socialism Realised and HistoryLab e-learning tools. Both educational platforms present an innovative approach to teaching the socialist past and contemporary history through multimedia sources, including personal testimonies, archival footage, and analytical commentaries, making history more accessible and engaging.
For our webinar, following exercises have been selected:
* Rewriting History? (https://www.socialismrealised.eu/catalogue/rewriting-history/)
* Things we do not talk about (https://www.socialismrealised.eu/catalogue/what-we-dont-talk-about/)
* What do we learn besides arithmetic? (https://app.testlab4.felk.cvut.cz/cviceni/what-do-we-learn-besides-arithmetic#slide-initial)
