In a remarkable achievement, An-Najah National University researchers have emerged as leaders on the 2023 Stanford University's Top 2% Scientists List. Elsevier, in collaboration with Stanford University, unveiled this esteemed list on October 4, 2023, highlighting the outstanding contributions of An-Najah National University scholars.

Among the impressive rankings, Prof. Waleed Sweileh, Prof. Tamer Khatib, and Prof. Sa'ed Zyoud secured top positions on both the long-term and short-term lists. This accomplishment underscores the exceptional caliber of research emanating from An-Najah National University.

Stanford University's Top 2% Scientists List encompasses two distinct categories. The first is based on career-long data, while the second focuses on research performance in 2022.

The long-term list classifies researchers according to several criteria, including standardized citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations in various authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score). This methodology stands out for its ability to provide a more nuanced and equitable evaluation compared to other methods solely reliant on the h-index or the sheer number of published papers. The long-term classification evaluates researchers over their entire careers.

Conversely, the short-term list applies the same criteria but over a one-year period, specifically 2022.

An-Najah University researchers dominated the long list in Palestine, with seven out of the fourteen researchers hailing from the University:

  • Prof. Waleed Sweileh
  • Prof. Tamer Khatib
  • Prof. Sa'ed Zyoud
  • Prof. Ansam Sawalha
  • Prof. Marwan Mahmoud
  • Prof. Ismail Warad
  • Prof. Samir Khudair

On the short list, An-Najah University researchers were equally impressive, occupying fifteen of the thirty-three spots:

  • Prof. Walid Sweileh
  • Prof. Sa'ed Zyoud
  • Prof. Tamer Khatib
  • Prof. Nidal Jaradat
  • Prof. Ismail Warad
  • Prof. Ramzi Shawahna

  • Prof. Yacoub Batta
  • Prof. Rawaa Al Ramahi
