Ministries have just over a month to spend Budget 2023 allocations, says Ahmad

PONTIAN: All 26 ministries have about one month and a week left to spend every penny of the allocation channelled to them from Budget 2023, says Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He added as of Thursday (Nov 23), the 26 ministries have already spent up to 82% for development expenditure and 92% for operating expenditure from the budget that has been allocated to them respectively.

“Every ministry has its own finance development council to oversee the spending performance of each ministry from the Budget 2023 allocation given to them.

“The budget for the ministries is divided into two. One is for development expenditure and the other is operating expenditure,” he said when met after officiating at a health awareness programme at Dewan Muafakat Sungai Pinggan in Benut here on Saturday (Nov 25).

Ahmad, who is also the Pontian MP, added the ministries have until Dec 31 this year to spend whatever available balance in their development and operating expenditures.

“Through Budget 2024, the government has allocated RM393.8bil where RM303.8bil for operating expenditure while the remaining RM90bil is meant for development expenditure,” he said, adding that the total allocation for Budget 2023 was at RM388.1bil.
