ABOUT THE CENTER FOR AUTHENTIC LISTENING & LEARNING:

The Center for Authentic Listening & Learning (C.A.L.L) is a 501c3 organization established in 2010. Our vision is to reconnect people in nature. In 2021 our President purchased 244-acres of what is historically known as Lake Placid, Missouri. We partnered with the land owner to co-host this Juneteenth Gala. We hope you stop by and meet us. Let us know who you are!

OUR MISSION: To steward a vision of serenity and liberation for people in nature at Missouri's First Black Resort. Recognizing the land as a living organism, we approach this journey toward health and economic wholeness by listening to the stories from the community and honoring the humanity of black people.

OUR VISION: Host Restorative Wellness Retreats for Adult Learners, offer Educational tours and Community experiences.

ABOUT REPARATIONS PROJECT 40 LLC

In 2021 RepProject40 purchased 244-acres of Missouri's First Black Resort. Through Freedom & Reparations we will tell the stories to guests and offer experiences for groups and family.

HISTORY OF LAKE PLACID:

Dr. P. C. Turner and J. M. Sojourner were two black men from Kansas City, Missouri. In 1934, they purchased an area of land that would soon become Lake Placid – "A Recreational Center for Colored People." The resort served as a cornerstone for many African-Americans throughout Missouri during this time. Residents had a peaceful relationship with whites, welcoming them to visit the property often; though, they weren't allowed to own a cabin there. This project tells the story of how Dr. P. C. Turner contributed a great amount of effort, physically and financially, in order to keep Lake Placid's legacy alive. It is also critical that we honor his leadership displayed through the years.
