Great SystemTinaWe needed to add some closet space to our room and the PAX system worked great. The "frames" were very easy to put together. I love the fact they you can customize it to fit your needs.5
Junk - don't waste your moneyMonicaI've assembled more PAX systems over the last 20 years than I can count, and they've always had strong, sturdy frames and components that lasted a long time. This new version is TOTAL JUNK. All parts are thinner (so the sides on larger units bow out), surfaces scratch and chip easily, the back has a noticeable crease that doesn't straighten out, the connectors and cam locks are plastic crap that breaks (used to be metal), screw heads strip easily, the plastic parts are highly visible, and the entire unit wobbles. I just bought 7 of these for a new closet, along with 8 drawers, and countless shelves (don't put anything heavy on the shelves because they'll sag). In the end, we took them all apart, then glued and screwed the units and drawers together and nailed on the backs to give them some rigidity and prevent the drawers from falling apart. After 20 years as a huge PAX fan, I will never buy another piece of this garbage again.1
Sturdy unit but assembly was difficult TedThe materials were sturdy and the instructions were clear. The unit was the perfect size for a niche in a bedroom. However, when I was mounting the cabinet in that niche it was difficult to install the top shelf. In retrospect it would have been better to assemble the unit flat on the floor and then lift into the niche and mount to the wall.4
Not worth the moneyAnonymous reviewerSave your money!! Not worth a custom wardrobe or shelf. item is very sensitive and broke on me while building. instructions are very confusing. need more than 2 people build, depending on the size
get yourself something better deal1
Quality issuesAnonymous reviewerThe pieces chip very easily, more so than other ikea products I’ve owned. This was especially true of were the particle board join together. Had use wood glue in some places. 2
Closet cabinetHarrisThe only thing was the bottom piece of the cabinet would not fit in the slot5
Can no longer assemble on my own:(. The 1.0 does not fit with 2.0.Anonymous reviewerPurchased the new Pax system unknowingly tried to catch the last of the 1.0 system. Due to the scarcity of the frames I grabbed what I could when in stock. I found out through vlog/ blogs that a new version of the closet was coming soon, so I was aware that the systems would not correlate. Got online an purchased what was showing as the 1.0 version, but received the new 2.0. Canceled the first order when I saw it was the new framed 2.0 version. So now I have a corner 1.0 that doesn't fit the 2.0. Also the assembly has been simplified, but I prefer the original system hands down. It was possible to assemble the smaller systems by myself (my DIY therapy lol) but no more. Oh and watch the feet I chipped the bottom trim part trying to squeeze it past the feet. 3
beyond easyAnonymous reviewerI bought and assembled a pax system in 2005. I rebuilt someone else's pax system three years ago (old style), and have just finished assembling and installing a new 'book' style pax: It was *AMAZINGLY* simple, and *MUCH* easier than the old style! I've always had high ceilings, so I'm always buying the 92" frames - it's not easy to lift those up once they are built. And it wasn't easy to super flush them to the wall with the old attachment style, either. The new build is so easy that I was able to put it together all by myself (I'm a 5'7" woman with a two-step ladder) in less than two hours, and it's so tight to the wall! At a very high level it's three steps: mount the rail, open up the system, attach to rail. If you take your time to properly measure (have your measuring tape, level, straight edge and pencil ready) where the rail goes, everything will be well. Ikea instructions will always require a bit of deciphering, but just take your time to read and it's very simple. 5
It doesnt work and its easy to breakAlejandroIt breaks very easily, the way it is made is easier because you don't have to put nails in, but the truth is I prefer the old one, although it will take a little more work to assemble it, it was stronger than this new one. I think that for people who don't like to use tools it is perfect, but in my case it is not.2
I like it. Am I the outlier?JimmikaNew Pax (Pax 2.0) is really good once you have good instruction. Look up Youtuber Ross Scharphorn Pax 2.0 USA. Dare I say 2.0 is better than the original? I've assembled (2) 39" and (4) 19.5"w x 93" x 22"d old Pax units. I have 96.25"H ceilings. I broke (1) 39" old pax unit by trying to install alone bc 39" couldn't be tilted up post build & the side wall was unruly to hold in place while putting on top pc. New Pax unit 39"w assembled alone stand in place w/out issue in 30m (1st one is always the hardest). Yes it uses plastic pieces, but there's only 24pcs of "hardware" vs like 90 and 4 mdf pcs vs 6. I had to move a 19" old pax unit from (1) room to another & had to call a friend to help. New pax 39" can easily be disassembled & moved. They feel equally stable. panels are identical to old. Pax 2.0=less install errors. New pax HAS to be anchored to wall bc of US 2023 STURDY Act. Dislike $ increase, should be $120. Ikea instructions still poor.4
Pax wardrobe system is amazingCassieWe were looking to add an amoire of sorts to our guest room, and we spent a good amount of time figuring out how much space we wanted to give up (visually as well as physically) and got advice from friends and family as we shared the design around. The drawer slides are really good quality full-extension soft-close and while the seam down the middle of the hardboard back makes us a little sad, the end result is stylish and perfect for our needs. Be careful with all particle board edges as they chip easily, but none are visible after assembly. 5
no good anymoreAlejandroI haven't been buying the Pax System for very long, but in the short time I've bought many, but the truth is that this new style that they released is of very poor quality and easy to break. The previous style was much better in quality and in every way. I would like to buy more of the previous version, but I don't know how.2
It Good JomkhwanIt's very good 5
40% price increase?!KimThe frames used to be 95. Why are they 160 now?! I wanted to buy 2 more but it would cost me 320. That’s 130 more! This doesn’t even include the cost of rails and drawers. I would rather spend time nailing the backboard to save 130. I think Ikea is being greedy since it has become popular to custom closets with pax frames. Please let me know why there’s a 40% price increase because according to everyone else, the new frames are worse. 2
new PAX design- TERRIBLEStephanieI'm incredibly disappointed that IKEA discontinued their previous PAX wardrobes. I have multiples of them in my home and recently purchased another one for another project and what I was expecting to get was NOTHING like I received. These are very difficult to put together and incredibly confusing. I have put all of my other wardrobe systems together myself, and the new design is definitely a 2 person job. So disappointing! Why do companies always ruin a good thing! The old saying of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" definitely needs to apply here! IKEA, you ruined an amazing product with this terrible design!!!1
Terrible new design!! Do not buyKathleenWe put a whole walk in closet design together with the old system. It was super easy fast and great quality. We decided to do our guest room in the same product. WELL, it was horrible!!! A much smaller space but took twice as long to put together and FLIMSY!! I do not recommend the new design! It’s held together by a bunch of cheap plastic parts and doesn’t align well at all. NO NOT PURCHASE1
Decent Product LisaWorks well. 5
The BESTAntonI am so glad that we ordered these cabinets!! They were easy to assemble and install. The directions were good and not hard to understand. The quality were very good for the price. I love them! I got a quote for my closet for $10K and it didn't even have any drawers, shelves, lights and backing. We paid $3,600 for the Pax closets and we got everything listed from above and more! They are perfect and I will be buying them for every closest in my house. 100% recommend! 5
Extremely difficult to put together & flimsy AracelizTypically, it’s difficult to put together any of IKEA’s furniture because of the fact that their instructions don’t have words, but this takes the cake. The pack structure itself is a fold out and has a top piece and a base piece that is supposed to click in not only do the pieces not properly click in, but the reinforcements provided our flimsy pieces of plastic. If you do get this Closet piece Make sure to purchase your own screws and metal L-shaped brackets to reinforce the top piece2
Another great pax buyNelidaWe have so many IKEA furniture in our home, but all of our closets are all Pax. Durable and reliable. Also easy to put together.5
