The Roots Routes at Dialogue on China- ASEAN Cultural Heritage

On the 16th of November, The Roots Routes got invitations from the China Center for International Communication Development and Guangxi Publishing & Media Group Co. Ltd., to attend a Dialogue on China-ASEAN cultural heritage as one of the representatives from Thailand. The dialogue takes place in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and brings together cultural heritage experts, and professionals from both China and ASEAN nations to network, share insights and strategies on trying to use innovations and technology to preserve cultures and heritage through discussions, presentations and local tours workshops.

The local tour workshops includes:

  1. Ningming Huashan Rock Art Area Exploration: Delegates admired ancient rock art, witnessing millennia-old cultural expressions carved into mountainsides.

  2. Anthropology Museum of Guangxi Tour: A comprehensive journey through Zhuang cultural heritage, featuring:

    • "Zhuang Culture Exhibition" highlighting intricate brocade techniques

    • "Culture of Bronze Drum" showcasing musical and cultural significance

    • "Gorgeous Garments" exhibition displaying traditional textile artistry

    • "Dream of Craftsmanship" section illuminating traditional crafting methods

We were very amazing at one of the main highlights of the trip which is the ancient rock painting on the mountain wall at Ningming Huashan Rock Art Area! The painting is actually a world heritage site, and it was very inspiring to see that the local communities and authorities taking initiatives in not only preserving these historical heritage site but also actively promote and integrate it into many other forms of arts and product designs such as souvenirs, city branding, and performing arts! If you visit China, Nanning and Ningming Huashan Rock Art Area are two of our recommendation!

Our founder, Miss Sirada, played an important role in showcasing the power of working with young people and technology to preserve cultural heritage. She emphasizes on the importance of involving younger generations, and giving them the platform and opportunities to take lead, and introduce new, modern technological innovation to restore, and conserve ancient cultures and heritage.

Some of our offerings also aligned with her words such as

  • Digital Heritage Archives: Design digital experiences such as our self guided audio tour (here) that documents and digitize local community stories and heritage and make it accessible for all travelers who travel solo and wants access to a tour guide to learn more about local heritage

  • Raising Awareness and Appreciation: Using the power of storytelling, and cultural tour that connects people to less mainstream, or local communities in our guided route (here)

  • Integrating culture and heritage in everyday life: Designing custom culture experiences and in terms of workshops and events as well as offer heritage preservation consultation to relevant stakeholders.

We had the opportunity to talk with other representatives from organizations with the same goal, which is to preserve cultural heritage, from all over ASEAN, and China. We got to exchange knowledge and insights, as well as discuss potential future collaborations in the future as well. Furthermore, we get to learn a lot about what others are currently doing in our type of space and are inspired to try harder to achieve our mission as well.

“Fostering good synergy amongst all people, from individual to the international level, helps us work towards a shared goal.” Miss Sirada emphasized,  "It is not about you, me or them, It’s about our world cultural heritage."

As cultural landscapes evolve, our commitment remains: preserving heritage, amplifying local voices, and creating global cultural connections. We are always open to potential collaborations and partnerships with like-minded organizations to achieve our missions and vision for the future.
