Nearly 90% of Pasir Putih market razed in late night fire

IPOH: About 90% of the Pasir Putih wet market near here was razed in a fire early Tuesday (Feb 13) morning.

Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee said he received news of the fire at about 12.20am Tuesday.

Lee said he rushed to the scene with assemblyman Goh See Hua and councillor Jayden Lim to get an update from the Fire and Rescue Department personnel there.

“When we reached there at about 12.35am, about 80% of the market was up in flames, despite the firemen trying their best to douse the fire.

“There were nine fire engines, and 60 firemen, including volunteer firemen, at the scene. It took them about two hours to control the fire.

“At about 1.50am, the fire was put out,” he said in a statement.

Lee said such an incident was very unfortunate, especially for the 60-odd traders who had restocked items for the Chinese New Year period.

“Both the assemblyman and I will get the necessary information from the Ipoh City Council for the traders to go through the right procedures,” he added.
