How AI is accessible to all, regardless of technical background

Ensuring everyone can benefit from the progress in artificial intelligence begins by democratizing AI.

Developing artificial intelligence (AI) was once complex and resource-intensive, requiring specific technical knowledge. Now, AI solutions are becoming ubiquitous in our daily lives.

To make AI available to a wider range of people and organizations, there’s a movement called AI democratization. Tiffany Janzen, a technical consultant and software developer, explains that democratizing AI means extending its benefits to a wider range of individuals and organizations. The three keys to this democratization are:

Companies like Intel are at the forefront of this movement, working hard to ensure that the benefits of AI are available to all. One challenge with AI tools, like generative AI, is their high cost due to resource-intensive model training. Intel is addressing this issue by incorporating AI accelerators directly into their 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and other AI hardware that is already prevalent in the systems individuals might be using today.

This is why Intel is partnering with leaders in the industry to create oneAPI – an open programming model that enables AI developers to productively solve AI challenges on the hardware of their choice.

Additionally, Intel is partnering with leaders in the industry on the oneAPI industry initiative, which provides open software tools and optimizations for developers to build AI models that are compatible with a wide range of hardware platforms beyond just those from Intel. This approach streamlines the development process.

The oneAPI specifications and open-source projects allow developers to build, train and run AI models on a wide range of platforms while continuing to use industry-standard languages and frameworks they are familiar with.

To ensure AI is accessible to individuals without technical backgrounds, Intel has introduced Digital Readiness Programs:

These programs empower individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital era. Through partnerships with academic institutions, businesses and industry experts, Intel’s programs inspire responsible and ethical AI usage, encourage new solutions and enable competitiveness in an increasingly digital world.

Whether you are involved in building AI tools or using them, the democratization of AI ensures there is room for everyone to leverage AI to supercharge their applications.

Watch the video above to see how Intel is shaping a future where AI is available to individuals from diverse backgrounds and fields. By promoting responsibility and inclusivity, Intel is unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence to create a better society for all.
