We will need the same people and skills and many others as the energy sector decarbonises. H2X New Zealand is an Aotearoa example of how gas expertise built up in Taranaki can be applied to hydrogen opportunities. Also saw many examples in Western Australia of how expertise in natural gas is having an impact in broader applications.

The the European Commission has published the T&Cs for the European Hydrogen Bank Deadline The pilot auction under the Innovation Fund will be opened in November 2023 and awarded in Q1 2024. Budget A €800 million budget will be available for bidders (project developers). Funding will be awarded as a fixed premium in €/kg of verified and certified RFNBO hydrogen produced, on top of market revenues that developers can achieve, and guaranteed for up to ten years of operation. Technical Requirements Minimum : 5 MWe of newly installed electrolyser capacity (which must be in a single location; virtual pooling of capacity is not permitted). The maximum time to entry into operation is defined as the period between the signature of the grant agreement and entry into operation and is 5 years. Price Ceiling price for the bids: 4.5 €/kg of hydrogen produced, this will be reviewed in subsequent rounds. Price ranking. Qualifying proposals will be ranked from lowest to highest bid price and awarded in that order until the available budget (€800 million) is exhausted. Hydrogen verified and certified in line with the definitions and requirements from the Renewable Energy Directive and its Delegated Acts. Payments are made upon verified and certified RFNBO hydrogen production and are scheduled semi-annually upon entry into operation. Production flexibility rules are in place, catering for the intermittent nature of renewable power supply. The budget restriction for each bid is one-third of the total available budget defined for the auctioned topic (i.e. one-third of €800 million or €266,7 million). FLOATECH Webinar: Women 4 Wind (floatech-project.com) "FLOATECH aims to increase the technical maturity and the cost competitiveness of floating offshore wind energy through the implementation of two types of actions:   - The development, implementation, and validation of a user-friendly and efficient design engineering tool (named QBlade-Ocean) performing simulations of floating offshore wind turbines with unseen aerodynamic and hydrodynamic fidelity. The more advanced modeling theories will lead to a reduction of the uncertainties in the design process and an increase in turbine efficiency. - The development of two innovative control techniques (i.e. Active Wave-based feed-forward Control and Active Wake Mixing) for Floating Wind Turbines and floaters, combining wave prediction and anticipation of induced platform motions. We’ve kicked off Front End Engineering & Design (FEED) for our second plant (HPP2). It will be the largest low carbon hydrogen plant in the UK producing up to 1,000MW – enough to power the city of Liverpool – and will be nearly three times bigger than our first plant! This follows from HPP1 that completed FEED in September 2021 and was selected by the Government in March 2023 as one of two initial large low carbon hydrogen plants to progress in the UK. HPP2 will be the catalyst for investment in infrastructure across the North West that will transport and store hydrogen. Industrial and power generation customers across the region stand ready to ‘fuel switch’ to hydrogen, delivering the first low carbon refining, glass and chemicals manufacturing sites in the world. Ceres, has joined forces with AtkinsRéalis, a world-leading design, #engineering and project management organisation, to deliver the front-end engineering design (#FEED) for a #commercial multi-megawatt modularised #hydrogen production system based on Ceres’ robust, low-cost and highly #efficient solid oxide #technology. Solid oxide #electrolysis (#SOEC) provides a route to generate #greenhydrogen over 25% more efficiently than incumbent lower temperature technology. Ceres and AtkinsRéalis’ collaboration aims to create a blueprint of the optimum system architecture for a 100MW+ electrolyser system to produce green hydrogen, as a building block for gigawatt-scale plants.
