Beautiful South Africa, the logic behind the expansion of more African massive businesses is inevitable on a scale that can only be measured on the expansion of the expanding economies it possesses while the rest of the world seems to not have as much to overcome with solutions. And solutions always equal income, thus in a simple way to say it “Africa is growing as it has space to grow while the rest of the bigger countries have done so already”. Part 1 - US-Africa relationship, a parallel for US-PNG and the Pacific. *** The US sees Africa as a problem to be solved, but, China sees Africa as a place of opportunity. This simple sentence is the easiest way to understand the different approaches both the US and China have had towards Africa. 49 out of the 54 countries in Africa have joined China’s Belt and Road Initiative America’s interests in Africa has always been on natural resources of the continent and not on the future development of Africa and its people. Many African countries are looking towards China for their future growth and not the US. The China Belt and Road initiative in Africa has change the view of many Africans towards China because they can see economic growth stimulated by the Chinese Belt and Road initiative. Nearly 10,000 bridges, over 10,000 kilometers of railway, up to 100,000 kilometers of road, almost 100 ports, countless schools and hospitals. These are the type of infrastructures that are giving hope to the future generation and provide pathways for living a better quality of life. Instead of working with African leaders, the US main objective is lecturing them on the dangers of working with China, with the hope of reverse the trend of Chinese investments into Africa. This strategy is not working in Africa because the US assumes African leaders don’t know how to make the best decisions for their own countries. Here’s what one African leader said, “When we talked, the US does not listen to us, or in most cases without interests. This is what we want to change, we do not want anyone to tell us who we can work with or not, we want everyone to work with us. We want to work and trade with everyone.” Macky Sall, President of African Union. Twenty years ago, the US dominated trade with Africa, whilst China had zero presence on the continent. Chinese leaders did not sit down and strategize about how to stop the US, China simply launch its plans to grab the market share in Africa. Fast forward to today, in 2022, China’s trade with Africa reached $261 billion whilst the US trade remained at $64 billion, an amount that is five times that of the US. But the statistics that is more important and shows how effective China’s mission in Africa has been is a recent poll in Africa has found that 77% of African youths believed that China is the most important partner for the future success of their country. But how did the US loose its influence in Africa? This comes down to one small mistake, the US often disrespects smaller developing countries in Africa. When the US wants to deal with Africa, it treats the continent as one country and fails to address each country individually.

India has increased its lending to Africa as part of its efforts to counter China’s growing influence in the region. This move aims to strengthen economic and political ties between India and African countries, and to promote mutual development. India sees Africa as a strategic partner and seeks to enhance its presence in the region by offering attractive financing options for infrastructure projects, development programs, and bilateral trade. The increased lending by India to Africa reflects its commitment to play an active role in the region and contribute to Africa’s economic growth while also advancing its own geopolitical interests.
