New ministry a part of govt's focus on renewable energy, says deputy minister

JOHOR BARU: The new Energy Transition and Public Utilities Ministry is created as part of the government's focus on renewable energy, says Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

The Johor Baru MP said he was excited to be given a chance to work together with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is leading the ministry.

Akmal Nasrullah, who is the former deputy local government development minister, said he hoped the Task Force on Private Housing and Abandoned Projects (TFST) would be continued to help home buyers who turned victims of abandoned housing projects.

“This is a big responsibility,” he told reporters during a site visit to the Johor Baru City Council's water pump house at Kampung Mohd Amin here on Tuesday (Dec 12).

Akmal Nasrullah said TFST was something that is close to him, as he had been entrusted by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming to carry out some of the task force meetings.

“He (Nga) had been guiding me and given me chances to chair the taskforce meeting; the task should be given to the minister and not by the deputy but he had allowed me to be part of this,” he added.

The new Cabinet line-up is expected to further improve the unity government's performance in the future, he added.

“The reshuffle will give more focus to the country going forward,” he said.
