Happy Friday!

The first half of the Summer Term has been filled with a huge variety of activities, read all the key news below.
Also, we bid farewell and good luck to our Upper Sixth students: we look forward to celebrating your future success in August and beyond!

The Archer Advisory Group
Last week saw the 16th meeting of the Archer Advisory Group, a key pupil voice body at Emanuel School. Prompted by a recorded talk from Dr Shola Apena Rogers of the African Caribbean Education Network, a stimulating discussion left Archerites from Year 8 to Upper Sixth, energised and inspired. If you would like to join the Archer Group, please contact Mr Andrews.
the GCSE Art and GCSE DT Exhibition
Huge thanks to everyone who joined the private view for the GCSE Art Exhibition last week, to celebrate with us the hard work and success of our Year 11 Art students. The artworks on display demonstrate the impressive skill and creativity of the Emanuel students when using a wide variety of media and techniques.
Music Events

The next Performers’ Platform will be held on Monday 5th June at 4.30pm in the Concert Hall. The Performers’ Platform series is an incredibly popular weekly event, and any pupil can sign up to play or sing. This concert is for our Year 8 pupils. If you would like to take part, please email the Music Department.

Our summer term Ensembles’ Concert will take place on Tuesday 20th June at 5.15pm in the Concert Hall.

Wednesday 28th June sees the Music Department return to the Clapham Grand after the sell-out ‘Night at the Musicals’ last academic year.  Join the Emanuel School Choir, the Emanuel School Parents' Choir, our Partnership Choirs and a professional 16-piece rock band for an unforgettable night celebrating some of the greatest rock and pop music: Beatles, ABBA, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Annie Lennox and Coldplay!

CRICKET
Tom (Year 7), playing for the U12A, managed to amass 248 runs in two matches on consecutive days without being dismissed, chasing down two big totals.
Having been set 167 for victory against Tiffin on Friday, and with wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end, Tom hit an incredible 145 not out and the game was won inside 14 overs. Tom who is currently representing Middlesex ( and batting at number 11) had never before hit a fifty, and the ferocity combined with strong technique he demonstrated in this onslaught was extraordinary.

Newbie screening
On Thursday evening, we had a special screening of 'Newbie'. This short film was directed and co-written by Mr Skinner from the school's Film and Media department, in collaboration with the Be Kind Movement. In the summer holidays last year, Mr Skinner made a short film with one of our partner primary schools (John Burns Primary). ‘Newbie’ stars Jack Carroll (Britain’s Got Talent, Eaten by Lions) as well as former Year 6 pupils from one of our partner schools (John Burns Primary). The children who acted in the film attended the screening and enjoyed watching it for the first time.
The popcorn stall was very popular too! Newbie is currently touring the international feature film circuit and we will make sure to share any updates.

Film in a Week
This term, our first cohort of ten Film Studies students have started producing their own 5-minute films for the coursework component of the A-Level course. Over the last few weekends, students have been borrowing specialist filmmaking kits from the school to complete their individual film shoots. We have been so impressed with the professional approach that the students have taken towards their film productions, their excellent teamwork, and the quality of the material that they have captured.  Huge thanks to all the parents and friends of our students who have provided support and have appeared in these films! Here, one of our students (Bert) reflects on his experiences of shooting his film:

Psychotronic Book Club, Farewell!
"It was with great sadness I said ‘farewell’ to my very loyal group of Year 13 pupils who have supported the Psychotronic Book Club since their time in Year 9. We meet once every half-term to discuss a novel and Maddie, Freya, Emily, Esme, and Lucy have rarely missed a meeting. The remit of the club is to discuss weird, cult and often challenging fiction, however, since this group are all huge horror fans many of the titles we have discussed have been very dark indeed!"

OE Story - Peter Harrington
(OE 1953-60)
We are always incredibly grateful to alumni who donate their precious artefacts and objects to the permanent School Archive, so others can marvel in their history. The six rowing tankards featured in this article were won by Peter Harrington (OE1953-60) between 1958 and 1960, just as Emanuel was about to enter its first golden era of schoolboy rowing.

Last month the Emanuel DJ pupils took over one of London's top nightclubs: XOYO. The afternoon started with pupils from Sacred Heart Primary who have been learning how to DJ through our Primary Ambitions Programme!

This means we are also within the top 10 of fully co-ed day schools.
We are very proud to see that our school has achieved a national position of 54th in the combined AL/GCSE Parent Power article with The Times.
