A 65-year-old tugboat may not look like the future of heavy-duty transportation, but after a retrofit of the old diesel engine, Climate Pledge signatory and Climate Pledge Fund recipient, Amogy, is proving that ammonia is the fuel of the future as a readily available, energy-dense, and carbon free alternative for vehicles like ships, trucks, and buses. Using a machine called a chemical reactor, they’re changing ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen. The hydrogen then gets turned into electricity by another gadget called a fuel cell. The best part? The nitrogen—which typically becomes a potent greenhouse gas and health concern when ammonia is burned—is safely released into the atmosphere. This retrofitted tugboat is going to hit the waters this summer, running on a powerful system that can produce one megawatt of electricity from ammonia. In 2023, Amogy successfully tested smaller versions of this system in a truck, a tractor, and even a drone. Recognized as one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in energy for 2024, Amogy is actively earning its accolade by pioneering innovations aimed at decarbonizing an industry responsible for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. https://bit.ly/3PxTaS9 #TheClimatePledge #FutureOfTransportation #ClimateInnovation #CleanEnergyFuture #DecarbonizingTransport #AmmoniaPower #SustainableShipping #ClimatePledgeFund #InnovativeTechnology #GreenTransport

Thanks The Climate Pledge! We're excited to sail the world's-first ammonia-powered vessel 🚢

This is incredible progress! Retrofitting existing vessels with ammonia fuel cells is a game-changer for reducing emissions in shipping. Thanks for sharing, The Climate Pledge! #ClimateAction #AmmoniaPower

So exciting!! Amogy will there be any opportunities to see her IRL around NYC?
