Hawker jailed, fined RM12,000 for dragging dog with motorbike

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM12,000 in default six months’ jail by a Magistrate's Court here for dragging a dog on the road with a motorcycle.

Tan Chee Keong pleaded guilty to causing pain to the dog by dragging it along a road with a 182cm chain using a motorcycle in Taman Sukun Indah at 12.06am on Nov 21, 2023.

The charge was read to Tan in Hokkien by a court interpreter before he acknowledged and pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan.

During mitigation, lawyer Anas Hakimi from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) said Tan, who is a hawker with an eight-year-old child to support, was traumatised by the incident and has not been working for two months.
