Falcons Pick Up 10th Win of the Season With Two Wins Against Miles

MONTEVALLO, Ala. –  The University of Montevallo softball team sweeps Miles College after taking both ends of the double-header against the Golden Bears on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
 
GAME ONE
After Falcon starter Ariana Pinder sat Miles down 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the top of the first, Montevallo struck with three runs in the bottom half. Pinder got it started with an infield single then stole second. Bentlee Stiner brought her home with a single up the middle to give the Falcons the lead. Maddie Taylor came up and hit her first home run of the season which brought home Stiner.
 
The Golden Bears struck back in the second with a two out single to center to bring home a run. Montevallo responded with four runs in the bottom of the second Madison Fargo and Lily Stone both stole home on two separate plays. Sydnee Reaves picked up right where she left off this past weekend as she launched a two-run shot to right field. The ball got out in a matter of second as Reaves got all of this one.
 
Miles scored two unearned runs in the third to claw back into the game. After Molly Pendley and Madison Fargo walked, Lily Stone singled to score Pendley. Speedster Ansley Hudson lined a ball over the center fielder. Hudson was able to leg out an RBI triple standing up. Ariana Pinder scored Hudson with a sacrifice fly to left. Sydnee Reaves touched them all a batter after as she scorched a ball over the center field wall.
 
Ariana Pinder took care of the rest as she pitched a complete game while allowing no earned runs and she struck out five. Pinder moves to 2-0 on the season in the circle.

GAME NOTES
  • Sydnee Reaves hit her sixth and seventh homers of the season. Reaves now has two games with multiple homers.
  • Maddie Taylor hit her first home run of the season and picked up her first multi-RBI game of the year.
  • Bentlee Stiner and Ansley Hudson both had two hit games. Stiner picked up her seventh multi-hit game of the season while Hudson had her third game of the season with two hits.
  • Ariana Pinder moved to 2-0 on the season and had a career-high of five strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Much like game one, Taylor Lloyd got the start in the circle and fired a zero. In the bottom half, Sydnee Reaves kept her power streak going with another home run this time to left center. Sydnee now has seven home runs in the last five games. Montevallo put up three runs in the second as they drew five walks in the inning while Bentlee Stiner had a sac fly in the inning.
 
In the bottom of the third, Lily Stone extended her hitting streak to four games as she pulled a ball down the left field line to pick up two RBI. Stone then stole home after Olivia Bergert stole second base. Miles picked up their lone run of the game with an RBI ground out to second.
 
The Falcons were able to walk it off in the bottom of the fifth as Bentlee Stiner knocked a double into the right center gap to score Olivia Bergert and Madison Fargo.
 
Mya Young and Taylor Lloyd were terrific in the circle as they combined for two walks and five strikeouts while they only allowed four total hits.

  • Molly Pendley now has a run scored in the past five games.
  • Madison Fargo set a career-high with three runs scored in a game.

UP NEXT
The Falcons will now play their first GSC road series of the season as they take on Delta State on Friday, Mar. 1 and Saturday, Mar. 2. First pitch is schedule for 5:00 p.m. CT in Cleveland, Miss.
