Machang MP wants Rayer referred to committee over remarks in Parliament on two former PMs

KUALA LUMPUR: Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) has filed a motion to refer Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to the Dewan Rakyat’s Rights and Privileges Committee for his purported remarks on two former prime ministers.

Citing the Hansard from June 6, he said Rayer (PH-Jelutong) had linked the leakages in the procurement of ventilators during Covid-19 to the Emergency declared by then premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh).

“This is inaccurate, Tan Sri Speaker,” he said while adding that the Emergency cannot be blamed for it, instead it is related to the governance of the Health Ministry for which the ministry should be probed.

The second statement, said Wan Fayshal, was related to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, where Rayer had said the former premier had purportedly insulted the Royal institution and subsequently asked the government to revoke the veteran statesman's Tun-ship.

“Media reports said Tun Dr Mahathir is being investigated under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code and not for insulting the Royal institution. Then, why did Jelutong bring up the issue of revoking his Tun-ship.”

“I ask the Speaker to settle this problem properly in the House. Or he can retract his remarks,” he added.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who presided over the meeting, said he had received the letter.

“The letter and explanation are beautiful, but I will refer to the Hansard. I will then make a ruling and will inform YB of the action taken in line with the Standing Orders,” he said.

Rayer had urged the government to consider revoking Dr Mahathir's Tun-ship if he continued to attack the Royal institution during the debates on the Auditor-General’s Report 2021 Series 2 in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (June 6).

He said that Dr Mahathir was also looking to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to go against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"If we see, he (Dr Mahathir) is involved in the Malay Proclamation and possibly working with Pagoh (Muhyiddin), who had previously 'betrayed' him.

"The two leaders want to create problems and want to stop Tambun (Anwar) from doing his job to protect the welfare of the people," he said.
