Cops seize RM1.7mil in drugs bound for Sarawak at KLIA2, two nabbed

SHAH ALAM: A drug syndicate was busted with the seizure of RM1.76mil worth of drugs at KLIA2.

A 29-year-old local man and a 43-year-old Indonesian man were also detained as they were attempting to board a flight to Sibu, Sarawak.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said police detained the suspects at about 4am on April 22 at KLIA2 after finding drugs in their luggage and sling bag.

"Some 7kg of methamphetamine, 5.9kg of Erimin 5 pills and 61g of ecstasy were found in black plastic bags in their bags.

"We believe they were in the midst of transporting the drugs to Sibu, Sarawak, based on their flight tickets," she told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters on Wednesday (April 24).

Further investigation led police to a condominium unit in Seri Kembangan, where more drugs were seized, she added.

"Some 9kg of Erimin 5 pills and 169.65g of ketamine were stored at the condominium.

"The drugs seized at the airport and the condominium are worth RM1.76mil.

"We also seized RM31,077 worth of the suspects' assets," she said.

DCP Sasikala said both suspects have been remanded until Sunday (April 28).

"One of the suspects has four prior criminal records and both of them tested positive for drugs.

"We believe the syndicate has been operating for about four months.

"They catered for the Sarawak market by taking flights to transport the drugs," she said.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspects chose the early flight as they believed they could slip out unnoticed, she said.

"Some 22.679kg of drugs could have been supplied to 110,290 drug users.

"We will track down the remnants of the syndicate and uncover the source of the drugs," she said.

DCP Sasikala urged those with information on criminal activities, especially drug related ones, to contact the police.

"We need the cooperation of the public in the war against drugs," she said.
