Garissa(Mogadishu24)-At least two General Service Unit officers were killed and four others were injured on Monday when the vehicle they were traveling in was hit by a controlled bomb at Ege-Dam along the Daadab-Garissa road.

The officers were heading to supervise the national examinations for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which began today.

Police said the injured officers were rushed to the hospital to receive treatment.

Security agencies have conducted a search operation to ascertain the details of the militants, but no further information has been revealed.

This attack follows Kenya’s multi-agency team conducting an offensive operation in the area, where they destroyed a logistics base used by Al-Shabaab militants in Dahun, Fafi sub-county. Additionally, assorted foodstuffs, including rice, sugar, and water, were recovered in the operations.

On October 17th, the police reported that they had killed three Al-Shabaab militants in Fafi, Garissa County, during an ambush.

The police said the militants were transporting food items on donkey carts when they faced the offensive ambush from the security team.

Al-Shabaab has conducted several attacks in Kenya, particularly in the coastal county of Lamu and North-eastern counties; Garissa, Mandera and Wajir.

The Kenyan government has implemented crucial measures to reduce attacks, including identifying and capturing those who provide information, transportation, and supplies for Al-Shabaab militants, as well as establishing a 42KM cutline between Boni Forest and residential areas.

Kenya is one of the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troop-contributing countries and has actively engaged in the fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization, which poses a threat not only to Somalia but also to Kenya.
