Umno told Dr Akmal to stop discussing controversial socks issue, says Bung

KOTA KINABALU: Umno has instructed its youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh to stop discussing the controversial socks issue, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Sabah Umno chief said it had been revealed that KK Super Mart owners had no control over the supply and had publicly apologised over the incident.

"It is not a matter of whether we agree or disagree with Dr Akmal. Umno has already directed him to stop during a recent meeting," Bung said when asked if Sabah Umno agreed with Dr Akmal's stance.

He added that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also called for an end to the issue.

"To me, the call from His Majesty and the party president is sufficient. If it occurred in the Peninsula, please do not bring it here," he said.

Meanwhile, the Lamag assemblyman hit back at Datuk James Ligunjang for labelling Sabah Umno as "extremists".

"He has been away from the public eye for the last 25 years and he is now calling for Sabahans to reject Sabah Umno, labelling us as extremists.

"Everyone knows Sabah Umno is not extremist or racist," he said speaking after a breaking of fast programme here on Tuesday (April 2).

Ligunjang was Petagas assemblyman from 1990 to 1994.

The Kinabatangan MP added that the KK Super Mart issue was irrelevant to Sabah since the convenience store chain does not have a presence in the state.
