PRAIRIEVILLE — Get ready for orange cones and slowdowns on Airline Hwy. in Prairieville.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is set to embark on a nearly $13 million year-long road project between La. 74 and La. 42. The extensive project will involve milling asphalt concrete, pavement patching, asphalt concrete overlay, loop detectors, and other related work.
If you’ve driven on this five mile stretch of highway, you’ve likely experienced some of the bumps and jolts. The road was already in dire need of repair, and the scorching heat from last summer exacerbated the situation. Numerous sections of Airline Hwy. buckled from the extreme heat, prompting DOTD crews to apply temporary patches. However, a permanent fix is now imperative for these sections of the road.
Orange cones and signs warning motorists of the looming road project are already in place. DOTD says the construction road will mean alternating lane closures. Construction shifts are scheduled nightly from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Monday-Thursday. Weekend shifts are also anticipated from 8 p.m. Fridays-5 a.m. Mondays.
DOTD tells UWK that the project is scheduled to be complete in early 2025.
