South District Neighborhood Association Team-Up to Clean-Up 2024 Sign Up

Thank you for your interest in signing up to be a volunteer for the 7th annual Team up to Clean Up in the South District Neighborhood.  This year's event is a collaborative effort between the South District Neighborhood Association (SDNA), Resilient Sustainable Future for Iowa City, Johnson County Master Gardeners, Mom's Demand Action, City of Iowa City, Faith Academy, Backyard Abundance, Iowa City Community Theatre, Sycamore Greenway Friends, and Dream City. We come together with South District Residents, Allies and Partners to beautify our shared spaces within the neighborhood and business district. We build community and relationships while exploring and learning about the south side of Iowa City.

Please review and fill out this form (one per person). You should also fill out the attached waiver at the bottom of this sign up (one per person). Once you sign up, please be sure to note ALL volunteers will check-in at the Main Site. If you need to make changes to your volunteer commitment, please let us know immediately by contacting us at justin-skrzelowski@uiowa.edu.   


General Volunteer Details:

  • Experience: No volunteer experience is needed

  • Main Site Check-in: ALL volunteers will check-in at main site at Faith Academy--1030 Crosspark Ave in Iowa City near "Our Children Spoke" neighborhood mural and school playground under the SDNA Event tent. 

  • Water and Snacks: are available for free while supplies last at Check-in site

  • Assigned Site: Please familiarize yourself with your assigned location (BE SURE TO FIRST CHECK IN at Main Check-in site at Faith Academy before going to your site).

  • Gardening Tools: If you have gardening tools, please be sure to bring them and label them

  • How to Dress: Bring clothes and closed-toe shoes you do not mind getting dirty; Participants should wear long sleeves and pants if picking up trash along the Sycamore Greenway Trail due to thorny bushes, possible poison ivy and bugs

  • Children: All children must be accompanied by a guardian


Volunteer Sites & Roles--Roles may include but are not limited to the following descriptions:

  • Broadway Street Flowerbeds: @ 1030 Cross Park Ave (outside Faith Academy): mulch, weed, dig up and replace shrubs, plant and water; trash pick up

  • Iowa City Community Theatre: (future site): @ 840 Pepperwood Ln, Iowa City, IA 52240: cutting down shrubs and trees; trash pick up

  • Wetherby Park Edible Forest: @ 2400 Taylor Drive: mulch, weed, bed prep, plant and water; trash pick up

  • Sycamore Greenway Trail: @ TBD: trash pick up (Participants should wear long sleeves, closed-toe shoes and pants if picking up trash along the Sycamore Greenway Trail due to thorny bushes, possible poison ivy and bugs

  • Resilient Sustainable Future for Iowa City Nexus Building: @ 1927 Keokuk Street: trash pick up and possible landscaping
